Hi all, due in March but just starting to think about buying a changing bag... looking for recommendations! Ideally needs to be something oh wouldn't mind totting too. Thanks Smile

I just used a rucksack I already had. Far more practical. I do have a changing bag but I couldn't get on with it constantly being in the way if I tried to use a sling or flapping around on the back of the pram.

Friends who have since also converted to using rucksacks agree that most changing bags look pretty but are actually pretty annoying to have to use.

welshweasel · 01/01/2018 14:05

We’ve got a grey tweed babymel one which both of us use. DS is almost 2 and it still looks brand new.

Ekphrasis · 01/01/2018 14:13

Ive ended up deciding rucksacks are easier. A lovely silver one by north face has kept us going in style!

IWouldLikeToKnow · 01/01/2018 14:23

We used a Storksac messenger style bag. It’s more of a masculine bag really so my husband used it regularly as well as myself it’s still going strong and our son has just turned 3

boredofmyoldname · 01/01/2018 14:27

I'm another who started out with a changing bag and converted to a rucksack as it was more organised and less faffing.

We originally had a lovely one from TKMaxx, I can't remember the brand but it was quite a fancy one I think (useful I know!) but it just got in the way on the pram or when I used a sling so I ended up using my trusty rucksack :o

happymummy12345 · 01/01/2018 14:27

We use the silver cross bag that matches the Pram, purely because I like all the Pram and accessories to match because I think it looks nice

RosaBaby2 · 01/01/2018 14:31

My sister bought me a Cath Kidston rucksack for Christmas, I'm going to use that Smile

boopdoop · 01/01/2018 14:37

I had a skiphop one which was great. I lived having one which has the straps to fasten onto the handle of the pram, so that it was easily accessible, rather than having to have it under the buggy or hanging really low by the main strap. As we stopped using the buggy we moved to a rucksack but I would have hated only having a rucksack for the first couple of years as it was great having something that hung just in front of you and was easy to clip on and off etc.

NEmum · 01/01/2018 14:39

I bought two fairly expensive changing bags (stokke & storksak), found neither one particularly practical & switched to a rucksack bought in the warehouse sale for £5 😬 it's served my needs better, although now I'm pregnant again I'm eyeing up the Tiba & Marl backpack...I'm a total sucker

silkpyjamasallday · 01/01/2018 14:40

We use a rucksack with three compartments. There is absolutely no need to pay through the nose for a changing bag - which is essentially an ugly cumbersome handbag you'll never use again after the nappy stage is over. I spent a bit getting myself a small crossbody handbag for my phone/keys/wallet as my bigger handbags were made redundant by having the rucksack for baby things/bottles of water etc. But I didn't want to chuck important stuff in with nappies making them difficult to get out.

boredofmyoldname · 01/01/2018 14:41

Aha Skiphop, that's what we had!

Sorry that was bugging me :o

nandaandm · 01/01/2018 14:41

I had a Cath Kidston one. Loved it. Still have it 7 years later and looks great. My daughter now uses it for her dolls.

furryelephant · 01/01/2018 14:43

Another one here who used a rucksack! If you’re planning on baby wearing it’ll be a hell of a lot easier than a bag on your shoulder!

PipsM · 01/01/2018 14:51

I'm thinking of getting a pacapod in a backpack style... not sure though so need to go and see it in real life somewhere!!

CocoLoco87 · 01/01/2018 15:01

I've got the storksak tote in champagne/black. And I've got the skip hop Grand Central changing bag. Storksak gets used most of the time. Grand Central was good when I had a toddler + baby and we use it for weekends away or on a plane as hand luggage.

CocoLoco87 · 01/01/2018 15:02

And DH actually chose them so he's happy to walk around with them too Smile

Tigger83 · 01/01/2018 15:03

Thanks all! I've been looking at this ... www.bababing.com/product/bababing-products/harvey-tote-pac-stone/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg5ut4ceG2AIV4bftCh0EYQ6xEAQYASABEgITwfD_BwE thoughts??

I love my Tiba and Mark which DP bought when I was pregnant

It looks as good as new and he doesn't mind using it when he goes out with baby too

Potteryprincess30 · 01/01/2018 15:49

A small backpack is all you need honestly, that bag you put on looks huge. If you want a specially designed one they do back packs specifically 'modified' for a change bag, but personally I cant see much difference other then that they have a wipes dispenser type pocket. I'm due March the 7th and will just be using a mini eastpack backpack like last time, though may treat myself to a leather one this time

DailyMailareDicks · 01/01/2018 16:04

Another rucksack fan. I had an expensive change bag but for a lot of reasons I couldn’t use it. I couldn’t use the £1200 prom and travel system either Blush.

I used a sling and a rucksack that was a picnic bag type. It had a cooler bag insert that I kept food in and I used the matching picnic blanket as a change mat. It had all the elastic things in for holding the cutlery etc and I used these to organise bum cream and spoons (when weaning). Lots of little pockets and elastic things all over and clips to hang a toy from or clip to a stroller. Really versatile and I think it was less than £20!!

AmyJessicax26 · 01/01/2018 16:14

I literally just used one of my bigger handbags ! Changing bags done my head in!!!!!

HappyGirl86 · 01/01/2018 16:22

Tiba and Marl make beautiful changing bags and also do a rucksack style. I had the silver rucksack style and I still use it now as a normal bag. My husband was happy to use it too. If we are going out for the day we still use it and my daughter is nearly 2. It's really roomy and easy to carry being a rucksack.

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/01/2018 16:23

If you are breastfeeding, in particular, you will have very little to carry about. Changing bags are unnecessarily large and cumbersome and increase inconvenience when going out and about with your baby... they are a money maker for pram companies and not parent friendly at all. My opinion obvs.

festivedinosaur · 01/01/2018 16:48

I think it depends how long you're out for

I often leave the house in the morning and don't return until 5pm.

My bag co twins a change of baby grow, nappy sacks, nappies, wipes, a toy, some snacks, some water and emergency stash of teething supplies.

My rucksack is just big enough

PotteringAlong · 01/01/2018 16:51

How much are you planning on lugging around with you?! That bag is huge! I agree with everyone else. Use a bad you've already got and / or a rucksack. A couple of nappies, a packet or baby wipes and a clean babygro really don’t take up that much space...
