I've recently found out that we're expecting our first -exciting!

Could anyone tell me what is involved with the first midwife appointment please? The date I've been offered is when my DH is out of the country and I'm not sure whether it's the sort of thing that I would want him to be there for.

It's not necessary for him to be there.
Ask him about his medical history, where he was born, family history. They'll ask if he or anyone in his family have any genetic disorders.
They'll take blood, do your medical history, discuss everything.
Mine took about ninety minutes.

It's mostly form filling.
They take blood, blood pressure, test your urine and test your breath to get a carbon dioxide reading. Your partner doesn't need to be there.

Oh and work out your BMI.

Mostly form filling to see if there are any risks or history they need to watch and to check you don’t need any assistance or other agencies involved.

It's just a general appointment regarding family health, any issues between you and partners health, blood work taken and this is also when we would find out if we are consultant led in our area (some criteria mean it's automatic like weight, illness or conditions)

Can take about 20-90 minutes depending on what's needing discussed etc.

Think also you would get a scan date booked for 12 weeks but warning in our area if you fail to this appointment all appointments are cancelled and your back at square one and the date your given is non changeable.

Thanks everyone, this has reassured me! Sounds like fairly standard checks so I'll go alone.
