Car seat, nappies and a handful of clothes. And a Moses basket or similar to sleep. I bought the bare minimum as I was superstitious, and also there's loads of time while on maternity leave to get things :)
A mei tai sling has been amazing with a baby too if you get a sling! :) congrats!!

If you're on a budget, try not to get swept along with all the "must have" advice. See what hand me downs you get offered first. It's awful how much pressure new mums get to buy lots of expensive stuff they don't need. And congratulations!

Im due in april and havnt bought anything yet, im going to go into mothercare in feb as i have a week off and i want to have blitzed the house and cleared the junk and im just going to buy essentials, i didnt want to go all guns blazing and have all unused baby things lying around for months due to not having much space and I feel that closer to the time grandparents, aunts & uncles and friends are sure to offer to buy something for the baby. (I dont expect it and can afford it i just know they will all want to) My one friend has recently had a baby and shes putting all her clothes away for me so although i would like to go wild on stuff i just know alot of it will be a waste of money!!

Muslin cloths...lots and lots of them! We had 2 packs or something ridiculously optimistic, and my DC ended up being a “happy spitter” so at our peak I was using 20 per day

Amazon Prime and Netflix subscriptions.

So there are the basic lists but the things I’ve found helpful

  • chicco next to me crib. Has bought me so much sleep
  • Ewan the sleep sheep. Helps my daughter settle every night
  • miracle blanket swaddle. The only thing that controlled her startle reflex when she was tiny
  • grobags. Safest way to sleep and a great next step from swaddling
  • if you are bottle feeding- the tommy tippee perfect prep machine. AMAZING
  • i would recommend the sleepyhead as a convenient and safe nap space for the baby while you’re not in the bedroom. Easy to put it on the sofa or floor

Unfortunately none of the above are cheap but my goodness they have been worth it!
Hope that helps
