What cold and flu remedies are safe to take in pregnancy that work? I have a horrible cold and headache and paracetamol isn't quite cutting it. Thanks Smile

I think only paracetamol is safe to take medicine wise Sad If you have a sore throat there's a spray you can get from your doc that helps numb the pain though!

I've caught every cold possible whilst pregnant and found that hot water and honey really helps, as well as a nice warm bath. Also filling a basin with boiling water and breathing in the steam helps reduce the 'blocked up' feeling and just make sure you get plenty of rest!

Hope you're feeling better soon Thanks

Honestly? Not much :(((

I am in the same boat and it SUCKS. A pharmacist once told me that he has pregnant women cry on his shoulder when he tells them there is nothing they can do!

Some tips:

  • turn the shower on really hot for about 20 mins and inhale the steam
  • airwaves chewing gum
  • sleep propped up
  • have hot water with lemon with your paracetamol
  • get warmly wrapped out and go outside if you can face it; the cold air helps to clear your nose for a bit at least

Thankyou. I'll try the steam thing it sounds good. It's terrible isn't it. And blokes go so crazy over man flu. At least they can take medicine!!!

Hot honey and lemon (unless you have GD)

It's so crap isn't it! I'm 21+6. I'm on my third cold this winter, sleep is my best remedy, luckily my DS is 10 so that's not so tough for me. I've been sleeping practically sat up too. Paracetamol on a morning for headache to get me through the day and then just lots of baths and relaxing in general. Take care 🙂

Menthol crystals for a blocked nose, paracetamol for headache but also sugar water if possible as could be a drop. Olbas Oil on hankies but use disposable ones and suck some honey and lemon sweets or airwaves chewing gum to help.
