Cyclogest

I've been prescribed cyclogest today I had it in my previous pregnancy after recurrent miscarriage, I had some spotting yesterday which seems to have settled now but I used a pessary as soon as I got back from my appointment as I was keen to start it asap. I have been given 200mg once daily so I will do it at night from now on, I was just wondering if it would be ok to use another tonight just for today then just use one a day after that? I know some people are prescribed higher doses so it can't be harmful surely? Last time I started them at 5 weeks but I've struggled to get them as early this time with it being over Christmas. I'm 6 weeks today although by my scan today I'm earlier than I thought back for a rescan next week.

I was on it for a different reason, weak cervix, I had three times 200mg a day for 12 weeks if that helps at all. Hope all goes well with his pregnancy, sorry about your previous miscarriages Flowers

Thank you, I think I might use another tonight and then just one each night after that just feel like I need to get my levels up. I've been here before, the only successful pregnancy I had was with cyclogest. I hate the anxiety of early pregnancy I'm trying to be laid back about it but now I've had a scan it's more real. Hey ho what will be will be.

I was prescribed 200 but after reading lots on here about people taking it twice a day I discussed with my gp. She couldn't up it without speaking to consultant but basically told me 'you have the medication there, it is upto you what you do with it'.

Incase anyone thinks the GP was irresponsible I had had a mmc then a stillbirth and started spotting at 6 weeks that pregnancy. She was being very supportive but my consultant following the stillbirth was the lead in my pregnancy and they didn't see the need for cyclogest.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

gingerbreadmam so sorry for your losses. so did you take the extra cyclogest? I can't see it doing any harm like you say people on here are on 400mg twice daily.

Yes I did. I took them 12 hours apart.

One in the front and one in the back Grin.

Next time I'm going to go back way all the time as I got horrendous thrush and wasn't sure if it was related.

butterfly86 · 27/12/2017 20:57

I never tried the back last time but I am prone to thrush anyway so it would probably be better up the back Grin I only have 28 days supply at the moment I'm going to use another one tonight for definite, I have a lot of symptoms of low progesterone when I'm not pregnant so I probably do need it.

I have no idea whether I do or don't and aren't sure of the symptoms either but after a scan following the bleed the sonographer mentioned a trial for people who spotted and progesterone so I just requested it and that was why I got the smaller dose.

There is lots of conflicting advice online about where the progesterone is best absorbed so it's worth a Google so you can make up your own mind but I figured either way it is going to be absorbed and that was the important part.

Yes that's how I got it last time, we were trying to get on the promise trial but missed it by a few weeks but I mentioned it to my consultant and she was happy to prescribe it. I feel like if it's in the front it's closer to where it needs to be which is silly really as I know it's the bloodstream it needs to get in to!

I felt the same too which is why I only ever went as far as alternating haha!

If they prescribed it happily it could be worth ringing and discussing with gp and asking if you can up the dose. I'm sure the promise trial was 400 a day.

butterfly86 · 27/12/2017 23:39

I might speak to them and see what they say, although I only had 200mg while pregnant with my dd so their argument might be that it was enough last time.

Well that pregnancy being successful will hopefully give some confidence it's doing its job again this time. Has the spotting stopped get?

butterfly86 · 28/12/2017 11:43

Yes it's stopped thankfully, hopefully I've started it just in time. Just have to wait for next week's scan, I hate early pregnancy it feels like an eternity.

Oh I know it's a nightmare especially when it's either before symptoms have really started or when they have settled down and before you can feel kicks.

I'm sure everything is going just nicely in there though and it stopping is a good sign.
