Sharp "ouch" pains down below, 36 weeks

36 weeks pregnant with a big active baby. The past few days I've been getting what can only be described as short sharp twinges in my downstairs region! Several a day, only lasting a second but take me by surprise and make me stop what I'm doing and let out a high pitched "owe!"

Also had period type pains across my lower abdomen, where mensteual pains usually are, and also some mild backache - not necessarily all at the same time.

I'm huge and very low. I look like I'm about to pop. Are these signs that baby may be early?

No mucus plug lost just yet, but it's kinda painful to walk around much.

Forgot to add, DC1 came at 38 weeks and I vaguely remember getting these "ouch!" Shocks down below the day before they were born

I am 36 weeks and having the same pains!
My baby was transverse 2 weeks ago at the growth scan so he was kicking me there but the midwife thought he had turned more but not engaged yet.

I seem to remember with ds1 getting those pains towards the end and he came at 40+5.

Im hoping he waits till after Christmas as my ds1 is 2 in January! Smile

Nope. I've had this with both of mine and they were both over 10 days overdue. I always felt like they were kicking my cervix.

I got these loads in my last pregnancy but weirdly none in this one so far (37 weeks).
Like shooty arse pain but inside your lady areas instead? No idea what it is but as I say I had it loads in last pregnancy.

Fanny daggers I think I’ve seen them referred as on here ?

Tumbleweeds24 · 23/12/2017 21:55

"Fanny daggers" haha that's brilliant Grin

I'm hoping bump doesn't come early, we've so much to do over the xmas and new year period were almost ready but not quite

Somewhat reassured

Perhaps size of the baby is something to do with it? Sonographer guesstimated to be at least 9lbs at birth if baby kept up the same growth pattern Shock

Definitely fanny daggers.

gryffen · 23/12/2017 22:03

Yeah that's what I call them - Fanny Daggers- sharp sudden pains that are owie!

Think it's something to do with ligaments relaxing - had them for 3 weeks before being induced at 39 weeks

JassyRadlett · 23/12/2017 22:05

Argh, I had these. Feels like the baby is stabbing you in the cervix with an ice pick. Sympathies!

Misspilly88 · 23/12/2017 22:06

Yep mine were big babies too. Danny daggers describe it perfectly.

HappyAndRelaxed · 23/12/2017 22:10

Is it PGP or you can get 'lightening' kind of pains when the head is engaging Smile
