Is there a non intrusive way of finding out problems other than an amnio?

Is there anything other than an amnio to check for medical problems?

Harmony Test.

Harmony is currently the best screening test, it has a very high accuracy rate, but is not a diagnostic test. So it can say that your baby has probably/ probably not got downs etc with I think 99% correct results.

If you need total certainty then amnio or CVS (dependent on gestation) is a diagnostic test that says baby has got/has not got downs etc.

Some people will have harmony and move on to amnio if results are high risk.

Both tests only look for specific conditions so might come back clear on those, it doesn't mean that a baby couldn't have some other health problem at birth.

Parenting is about living with uncertainty.

Harmony. Not funded by all trusts so you may have to pay privately.

OP we did Harmony at a local private Ultrasound Direct clinic. It gave us a 1 in 10,000 chance of trisomy 21, Edwards, Patau's etc. It is based on fetal DNA so pretty accurate.

It cost us £400 but totally worth it.

Had the risk been higher I would have had amnio but for a 1/10000 risk I am glad I didn't take the chance of MC that comes with amnio.

My babies haven't been born yet so one of them could still have problems of course - but it significantly reduces the worry.
