Hey ladies I’m around 4 weeks pregnant and last night I forgot to take my folic acid tablet. Will it do any serious harm to the baby? Can i take it after breakfast today instead? Then continue to take it after breakfast each day (I usually take it before bed)

I think u can talk it at any time during the day tbh.

Don't worry @Gem173 missing the odd one won't do any harm to your baby at all. I'd say to just take your usual dose tomorrow as if you take double the dose to make up for missing one your body won't absorb the extra nutrients anyway. I'm sure I missed a few days of folic acid and I'm currently up breastfeeding my 10 week old DS!

And also yes as far as I know it doesn't matter what time of day you take it. I don't think I ever stuck to a schedule of taking it at the same time each day.

You're welcome @Gem173 Smile I remember feeling worried about doing things 'right' too. I drank a tiny sample of kombucha once (which is some kind of weird fermented drink) and then felt so guilty that it had probably 0.1% alcohol in as I didn't realise. Another time when I was about 7 months pregnant I had some soft cheese that was on the 'naughty' list. I was so not used to how rich it was that it made me sick and of course I was worried I'd hurt my baby but everything was totally fine. And then there was the two times I fell over at 9months pg!

Trust your instincts, you'll know when something isn't right and good luck on this exciting journey!

Thankyou! I can’t imagine falling over at nine months!! Glad everything turned out okay :) I will try not to worry so much And just enjoy this experience x

I think this is normal, pregnancy is worrying cos u love ur baby and want what best for them

EmmaLou3422 · 22/12/2017 15:18

My friend didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 21 weeks, obviously she took zero folic acid in that time. She was also drinking every weekend and smoking. (As soon as she found out she stopped everything) Her daughter is 12 weeks old and a picture of health. Never known such a happy smiley content little baby. Now, I'm not saying everyone should stop taking folic acid, get pissed and smoke... but I am saying missing a folic acid tablet really won't hurt at all.

Your body can store enough folate to last four months, so missing one dose wouldn't do much to lower the level in your body. You'll also be getting some from your food anyway. Nothing to worry about.

thingymaboob · 22/12/2017 17:19

If you're worried about it, take 2 today. If you're taking 400mcg dose, it's nothing! Remember, some women (myself included) take 5mg prescribed folic acid tablets which is 12.5x more than the standard recommended dose of 400mcg.
Also, I have hyperemesis and hardly took it at all!
