Slowed growth

Just wondering if anyone might have any insights. Had a scan at 28 weeks and baby was on 50th percentile, now at 34 weeks baby has dropped to just above the 10th percentile. Placenta all fine, fluid fine and baby was moving.

Anyone have any idea what could be going on? I've left a message with my midwife for when she's working tomorrow and have another scan booked for three weeks time.

They're obviously not overly concerned but I'm a little worried

Hopeful little bump. I'm worried but trying not to be!

If they were really worried they would be checking more often or bring baby out sooner.

They started monitoring me weekly from 30 weeks due to slowed growth and a few readings were lower than what they wanted.

I got to 36 weeks and one reading had dropped far to low so I was induced. Turned out the placenta was beginning to shut down. Baby was 5lb 5oz at 36 weeks.

I'm having regular fortnightly scans for slowed growth too. I'm 29 weeks. But again, they don't seem worried - I was told by my consultant that if they were really worried they would be doing scans on an almost daily basis. Some babies just are small or develop differently. But because it can (note "can" rather than "does") indicate a problem they have to be extra cautious. He basically said slowed growth is like a screening tool - doesn't mean something is wrong or will go wrong and ultrasounds aren't infallible. But they monitor it just in case. That explanation helped calm my anxiety about it.

Thanks ladies, that's really reassuring to hear. Three weeks seems like such a long wait.

I had growth scans with Ds as my bump was slow to grow but he was always bang on with his growth. First time I've ever had a baby that hasn't tracked for growth

Have they said how big baby is now?

Prusik · 19/12/2017 21:29

I think estimated to be about 4lb at the moment.

Just wondering the read for your question @user1485778793?

Just wondered how big baby was as the hospital don't seem too worried, I'm sure 4lb is about right for 34 weeks Smile

Prusik · 20/12/2017 14:52

Thanks Smile. I don't think he's looking to be overly tiny at the moment. Projected is maybe around 7lb or just over. I think it's more the fact that growth has slowed quite dramatically that concerns me. DS1 was born at 6lb6oz and was particularly sickly and in hospital for about 4.5 weeks after birth. Not sure if it's related. I don't think so

I was born late, nearly 42 weeks and was 5lb 6oz. Some babies are just smaller than others Smile
