Maternity grant

So at the moment i don't qualify for the £500 maternity grant. When i go on maternity leave i will only be getting maternity allowance as i dont qualify for maternity pay. Will i qualify for the grant after that?

Ugh forgot about applying for that - best thing to do is speak to a financial services group or charity and they can help - it's all down to numbers etc and each person is different. Good luck

No, to get the surestart grant, you have to be receiving some sort of needs-based benefit. Maternity allowance isn't one of those because you qualify for it by working/being self-employed, not by having a low income. I get maternity allowance (because I'm self-employed), but I don't qualify for the maternity grant.
