can anyone help me. Have had navel pierced for many years. I did take the bar out when pg with DD and got it redone a few months later. It cost me about £30.
Am now six months (26 weeks) pg with DS and belly button beginning to protrude. I didn't get big with DD and I can't see it happening with DS either.
Has anyone not taken the belly bar out and what was the state of your navel after the birth.
Will it stretch and look awful if I leave it in or is there anyway I can keep the bar in.

You can buy pregnancy belly bars They are made of plastic and will move into the shape you change into. I used them with all my pregnancies and still have the orginal piercing I had done at 17

You can buy 'pregnancy retainers'. They're bars made from a flexible plastic material, and you can wear them in your piercing throughout the pregnancy. I'm only nearly 14 weeks, so I've not got round to buying one yet, but I plan to. They're quite cheap, about a fiver I think.
If you Google 'pregnancy retainers' you'll find lots of sites selling them.
If you get one, let us know what it's like.

oh bugger i wish id known that sparkly

i kept mine in and my piercing (well, the whole belly button area tbh) is indeed a bit messy. mind you, would it not have stretched anyway?? dunno. i got bigger w/ each pg too, so watch out for that...(muscle tone not what it was)

i now wear it anyway, coz, well its a real diamond basically. its not something id show off, but then i wouldnt show any of my belly off in its current condition. maybe with a few more sit-ups...

The thing is if you keep the metal bar in, the piercing doesn't stretch too good, but the PTFE ones are felixable

If you don't want to buy any more bars, you can do what I did, I went to the local 'goth shop' and they had the PTFE bars but with no gems or balls attached, you then screw on your gems or balls, as its self-taps. Cost me about £1.

SparklyGothKat · 22/04/2007 17:51

you also cut them to size yourself

i took my belly bar out when pg with ds and got it back in fine after he was born. Its supposed to take a long time to fully heel

typhoonsmum · 22/04/2007 18:57

Bought one of the PTFE bars when I was about 14 weeks. Have had it in since. I was told that I could wear it throughout pregnancy but I just wanted to check from people who actually have gone throu Pregnancy with a plastic bar.

Mine only cost £5 but it is completely clear and looks as thou I don't have a bar in. Just don't fancy paying another £30 to get it redone in six months time and having a stomach full of scars.

What did the midwives say to the piercing as when Pg with DD they encouraged me to remove it. In the end I'd remove it in the waiting room and put it back in after I'd seen the midwife (what they don't know don't hurt them)

Have had belly button pierced for 8 years. In that time I've had to have it re pierced twice. The first time the top ball fell off and I lost the bar. It closed up in a week. The man at the local goth shop re did it and didn't charge as he thought he knew me. (Scary I know)
When I took it out when I was last pregnant it again closed up in about a week. Maybe I heal well.
