Help!
I have had IBS-D for years and controlled it with lopermide (imodium) tablets but since being pregnant I have had a really upset stomach.
The tablet box says not to take them during pregnant.
Doctors said to drink more water (that just makes me "go" more and makes the sickness kick off)

Can anyone suggest anything that might help calm my stomach down please?
I'm so weak because if I'm not throwing up I'm have IBS issues.

I'm 9 weeks if that helps.

TIA
X

Hello!

I too have IBS and am 16 weeks and have had terrible runs a couple of times! Some thing that has helped me for a year or so (but is a bit pricey) is Symprove. You can read all about it on their website and I've found it helped heaps with bloating too. I rang them when I discovered I was pregnant to check I was safe to continue.

Might even be worth ringing Symprove to ask about it as it is a big investment but I've had IBS for over 20 years and it's all that's helped me.

Good luck! x

Im an IBS sufferer too and before pregnancy i was prescribed Buscopan to help me manage it. My midwife more or less told me i have to just deal with it and manage my diet correctly as theres nothing i can take, which really wasnt helpful.

I have IBS but since being pregnant I'm cured- I've joked with my husband I want to be pregnant forever if it's like this!

I'm sorry you're having problems though. Will taking half an Imodium be too much? Or how about Colpermin? Not sure about what is considered safe in pregnancy but Colpermin is basically peppermint oil so may be more natural?

Sorry just seen that Imodium is a no! That's a shame because they really do help. :(

No advice I'm afraid, but like a pp, since having dd my symptoms are so much better. Mine was mostly stress/ anxiety driven and I guess know I have dd to focus on rather than my own worries, it just isn't such a problem anymore.

This post contains way too much info, continue at your peril.

My doc told me fibergel. Bulks out the poo rather than making you go (it's not a laxative).

Just a tip, they may offer you lactulose after birth to help with the first post birth poo. DO NOT TAKE IT. I literally sharted 2 days worth of poo all over my trousers, bed, pad, shoes, you name it. It was horrific. Never been so embarrassed!

In the end I ended up on a really controlled diet through pregnancy. Was awful.
