Living with parents

Hi everyone.

Im currently 11.5 weeks pregnant. The pregnancy wasnt planned and Im feeling very anxious about telling people the news as my partner and I live with my parents. We would have to continue to do so aswell for at least after the baby is born as we havent got enough savings for a mortgage and would barely be able to afford rent and bills on one salary and maternity pay.

Has anyone else lived with parents and had a baby?

Both of my step brothers (and their partners) did, and my brother also moved in when my niece was 1 year old. They did it so they could save for mortgages and my mum and step dad are really helpful and always happy to have family around. I think whether or not it works is dependant on if you manage to get your own space there, if they’re supportive or just intrusive etc. It can definitely work though as they’ve shown! And they all managed to save as they didn’t have to pay rent or anything

Obviously it's not ideal but at least if you stay with parents you have more of a chance to get a mortgage and move out later on? Do you get on well with your parents? Do you think you'd have enough space with the baby too? Are they supportive?

If youve got a decent enough relationship with your parents I think it can work out just fine, I know people who have done this and it has often worked out for the best. Try not to worry .

I had to move back home when my baby was a couple of months old, it's very handy to have someone else around during the day to hold the baby whilst you wash/eat/sleep and to make you food etc whilst feeding. It's also very good for saving money.
