Had a rash recently which i was told could've been caused by my washing powder etc so i accepted that and took the medicaion and it cleared up - eventually - but now i have no rash and suddenly have started itching all over. Belly loads but boobs, back arms etc and its drivng me mad. I'm 37 weeks pregnnat and highly stressed anyway as my DS1 has suddenly started refusing to go to bed and so i am struggling anyway but the itching is enough to push me to breaking point but i don't know if its even worth trying to fit in a doctors appt this monday or if it is a common pregnancy symptom as its getting everywhere and its literally driving me mad. I am so tired and want to go to bed soon but its keeping me up - can anyone help??

I think you should get checked out by your midwife or a doctor. There are lots of things which it could be - hormones, stretching skin etc- but it is worth getting checked as there is a more serious condition which has itching as a symptom.

I had this when pregnant with my dd, i had to have a blood test to test my Bile levels or something, i would advise you do get checked out because it is linked to something but i can't remember what? someone will be along shortly i am sure who will know more than me!

It can also be down to stretching etc but definatly get checked out sooner rather than later.

I know, thats what worries me. There is no rash and no major stretch mark situation but its driving me insane!! Its bad enough being sleep deprived and suffering from sciatica but this is taking things too far and i can't say i've heard of anyone experiencing this...

itching can be a sign of obstetric choleostatis, but that can be ruled out with a blood test, and is usually confined to itchy hands and feet IIRC

a cool bath, and some calamine dabbed on your body can help

but i;d call the midwife and ask her opinion

lulumama · 21/04/2007 21:33

to do with liver / bile as scooby has said

ScoobyDooooo · 21/04/2007 21:34

Do the soles of your feet or the palms of your hands itch?

elastamum · 21/04/2007 21:36

Get it checked out and ask for a blood test. If you do have choleostasis your baby could be at risk. A friend of mine had this and her babies had to be delivered early

i had a blood test 3 weeks ago when the rash appeared and it was fine. This appears to be unrelated to that incident as that went shortly after and this has started with no rash but its all over whereas the rash was only on my belly and was very, very visible - in fact it was quite angry and was put down to washing powder.

there is nothing visible whatsoever and its not particularly my hands or feet no, mainly my tummy, back, boobs and arms notw i think of it. boobs are quite bad even my nipples! I'm worried but trying not to jump to conclusions but tomorrow is sunday so i will have to get through to the monday morning which is a nightmare but i need to sleep better than last night!

So apart from itching what are other symptoms of this condition??

I've read that if itching you should check for pale poos, dark urine and yellowing in the whites of your eyes. All connected to the same liver condition, which can be dangerous. You're probably fine but if you have any of those symptoms too you should definitely get it checked out; from what I've read I think they usually suggest complete bed rest (lying on the left side) and sometimes induce delivery early.

Good luck, I'm sure it's nothing, just stretching skin.
