Just had my first scan as midwife made it to try and reassure me as had an awful last pregnancy.
They think I’m earlier than 5 weeks (I should be 5 weeks today) but as only saw a sac on scan they think I’m abit earlier. My bloods from 6 days ago were hcg 36. Is that normal for about 3/4 weeks?
Had bloods done today will know results later today or tomorrow morning. Then having bloods done again on Saturday.
I’m stressed beyond belief as I’ve had such a traumatic miscarriage in the past. Will things be okay?
Is this all normal?

I had a scan at 8 weeks and was dated a week behind which has continued on my further scans and I'm now 20 weeks. It just means you ovulated slightly later or implantation took a couple of days more. It's nothing to worry about and with regards to the scan it is so so early that the fact they can see anything is great! Good luck in your pregnancy x

Congratulations on your pregnancy. The chances of things going well are much greater than the chances of something going wrong - although I know it doesn't feel like it after a loss.

Was the early scan because of a previous ectopic or just a reassurance one? There's an argument that there's not much point scanning before 7/8 weeks without medical need because what you see can be so variable. So it's not necessarily anything to worry about that the scan has put you a bit earlier.

@Girlwiththearabstrap I really hope things will be okay!
I had the scan to try and reassure me after the most traumatic miscarriage at 14 weeks.

On your last post, lots said they saw very little this early so do take hope from that. I think it was very early to scan for reassurance as so little there to reassure but it sounds as though everything is right for 4/5 weeks. Actually, I think it was almost unfair to scan you so early knowing that even at 5 weeks there is so little there you’d probably not be reassured. I know I didn’t see a heartbeat until over 6 weeks and at 5 they could only say a sac and pole were present. A few days out can make so much difference early on - I’m a huge worrier too due to past miscarriage and would have another scan nearer to 8 weeks.

I hope everything is ok too. Be reassured that it is normal and common not to see anything at this stage and more pregnancies end well than not.

I also think it was unfair to send you for a reassurance scan this early. I'm also genuinely surprised that they did a scan for reassurance. My EPU doesn't scan before 8 weeks unless they think it's ectopic, or there's very heavy bleeding and they don't do reassurance scans as it doesn't affect the outcome or really provide reassurance. The best advice I got from my midwife was just to try and concentrate on the fact that statistically you're more likely to carry a healthy pregnancy than to miscarry.
