I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Sorry about the relapse Shehz but yay that you don't have GD

Lovely photo Mustang your wee dudes are so sweet!

Go home Rocking and get back to the doctor as soon as possible for a change of meds. You poor thing, trying to work when being sick that often :(

I'm lots better too Emu it does get much better for many of us. Nearly 37 weeks and apart from the midnight vomit session, which isn't even every night, I'm feeling almost normal these days (food aversions are still bothering me though). Pre-birth doctor check up tomorrow, dreading the cervical check as she wasn't exactly gentle last time but nevermind. Going early as I've got the first appointment of the day so can get in early and have more time to discuss all my concerns.

scottishem · 03/01/2018 11:13

Hi all!! Sorry I've totally dropped off over Christmas and New Year. Hope you're all feeling as good as you can be! And managed to keep some Christmas dinner down!
I've just extended my sick line into January and to be honest I feel I may be off until my Mat Leave kicks in at 36 weeks (29 weeks tomorrow) as the difference from being off work is huge!
Although I now have Acid Reflux! Eurgh! Anyone got any suggestions?? I cant stomach gaviscon as its just too thick in texture!

Natsku · 03/01/2018 11:17

Rennies and Ranitidine!

Emu31 · 03/01/2018 11:22

Scottish omeprazole has been a total lifesaver and game changer for me with the reflux. Don't have any now at all! GP has to prescribe it and they will steer you towards gaviscon but if you're firm about needing it they will give it to you (not sure why they are so reluctant as it's totally safe, I even had to argue with the pharmacist who didn't want to give me my prescription and kept saying to take gaviscon instead! Angry)

Oklahoma · 03/01/2018 11:44

Rocking go home. You’re no use to anyone in that state so it’s in their best interests you go home and get better too.

Natsku glad you’re feeling better.

ScottishEm ranitidine or omeprazole are lifesavers. Just tell them firmly gavisvon makes you sick. The reduced acid also helps with the nausea.

LucindaE · 03/01/2018 13:48

Just dahing on to say RockingLobstering Welcome. I so agree with others, you should not be at work. Do go sick. You shouldn't be penalised for time off for pregnancy related illnesses. You must have tried to return too early - many do. As others day, you can't be on effective meds and will soon be dehydrated. Do ask for new ones. Have you got kesostix from a chemists to check on the early stages of dehydration? Meanwhile, are ice lollies, flat full sugar coke, or the juice of tinned fruit any good?
Mustang An adorable couple! Glad things are looking up on the nausea front.
Waves to Oklahoma and everyone. Back soon.

thingymaboob · 03/01/2018 15:12

@RockingLobstering glad you found your way over here. You really can't push through hyperemesis - it's absolutely debilitating. I also couldn't take cyclizine at work as it made me so drowsy but it was great in combination with ondansetron. Go home, get signed off again. Your manager will just have to suck it up. Let's put it this way, if you were being that sick for any other reason other than pregnancy, do you think it would be reasonable to be in work?

Waves to all 👋
I'm 39 weeks now! Can't wait to get this baby out!! Not been sick for a couple of weeks but the acid reflux is unbearable- even omeprazole is not touching it.

Oklahoma · 03/01/2018 16:46

Thingy. you can take rennies or similar as well as omepraxole so long as it isn’t within a certain timeframe of taking the tablet. Read your leaflet. I had to do that towards the end with the ranitidine.

thingymaboob · 03/01/2018 17:00

Hi @Oklahoma hope you're doing well !
I am taking those gaviscon tablet things as well.

Oklahoma · 03/01/2018 17:02

In which case my advice is useless!! Fingers crossed for an imminent appearance then.

DeadDoorpost · 03/01/2018 17:20

Congrats Mustang! Glad to hear your baby finally came.

Did I miss any other announcements? Literally popped on because I'll kill DH if I stay in the room with him much longer.

Sorry to see more new names on here. It really does get better, I promise. 5 weeks since I had my boy and the sickness and birth is a long forgotten memory.

Waves to everyone else. Hope you're all doing ok and managing to eat some foods at least.

LucindaE · 03/01/2018 21:30

DeadDoorPost Lovely to hear from you. Glad all is well. Hope you manage to refrain from killing OH Wink.
LadesC and other new people, I hope coping.
Shehz I am so sorry about relapse, though glad the GD test was negative. I hope it is a hormonal surge. They can be so discouraging.
Meadowhay I am so glad you are so much better and I do hope you manage to get a staggered return.
Emu31 I am so glad you are so much better, too.
scottishem I so agree with others - when I had dreadful heartburn the doctor insisted only Gaviscon was safe, and perhaps they thought that so long ago, but it's just not true. An effective anti acid makes such a difference.
thingymaboob Really sorry that you have that dreadful acidity too.
39 weeks. My goodness, I must get up that old Due Dates list for updating.
Waves to Natsku Oklahoma TwoDrifters and everyone. I hope Orange and all those suffering badly recently are a tiny bit better...
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

OrangeCloud18 · 04/01/2018 06:54

LucindaE I am due on 4th March.

I bought 'Hyperemesis Gravidarum: The ultimate guide* and now wish I had done it sooner. Also wish I had found this thread sooner, it would have made ny 1st trimester a bit better rather than being a shell of myself.
I managed yesterday with 1 Ondansetron but otherwise back on 2 a day as really not feeling well... 8.5 weeks to go!

justtheonethen · 04/01/2018 08:34

I second how amazing that book is. Orange has been sharing bits with me and it's really interesting and useful. Wish I'd had it in my first trimester.

I'm still feeling lots better, not as amazing as last week but still like a new woman. All hail steroids!

Sleeping badly though Sad

Natsku · 04/01/2018 09:08

Sleep is shit at this point :( Was awake most of last night because the room was too bloody hot (OH insisted on having the radiator on because he feels a cold coming on and thinks that if he gets cold he'll get a cold...) but just thinking of it as my body preparing me for no sleep once baby gets here.

Had my OB appointment today, everything is fine, she got the same fundal height measurement (34) as the midwife last week so I'm definitely reassured on that point now. Cervix is soft but closed so doubt baby will come early so should have time for the referral to the maternity clinic for my birth fears before things get started. She commented that I clearly did tear quite properly last time - didn't realise the scar was so obvious!

justtheonethen · 04/01/2018 10:26

Natsku glad you feel reassured. Sorry you have a scar! I don't plan to look down there after birth. Might have to have a small goodbye ceremony for my fanjo though. I'll miss her Grin

Sleep is shit in third trimester isn't it? I guess it's good practice for baby like you say. I hate a hot bedroom so I would have had to sneak out and turn it off!

Herecomesanotheron2018 · 04/01/2018 11:46

Hi everyone. I hope you're all feeling as well as possible.

I eat and drank a bit yesterday and was able to play with dd which was lovely. I quickly went downhill though, and developed a 12 hour migraine. I've never ever had one last that long - it was so awful. So I'm feeling sorry for myself today!

I've got terrible heartburn so I've taken an omeprazole this morning so hope that helps soon. I've managed some toast and half a glass of ice cold squash this morning which is good. I find it's easier to eat rather than to drink. The thought of drinking makes me shudder and gag it's so weird!

I've also found that loud noises give me waves of nausea. Has anyone else had that? Confused my dm thought I was mad when I mentioned that.

No sickness yet today 🤞 but the nausea is still there and it's so debilitating.

Natsku · 04/01/2018 12:12

I can't really remember what my fanjo was like before so hard to tell what a difference the scar makes but obviously enough to make it obvious to the doctor, actually to make it look worse to the doctor because she asked if I tore from stem to stern which I thankfully didn't!

MeadowHay · 04/01/2018 12:52

Herecomes I always found eating dry foods much easier than drinking anything too, having liquid in my mouth would trigger nausea so it was really hard for much to drink when my HG was really bad. It's a lot better now but I'm still really fussy about what I can and can't drink and still find it easier to eat. It's annoying as hydration is so important. I can eat some fruits though and they're mostly water, and soup is fine for me too which again has lots of water, oh and instant porridge too.

Good news on the work front, HR finally got back to me and said my line manager and his manager (who is like the big boss of the department basically) have agreed for me to work afternoons from Monday so I will start at 1.45pm which is doable as my work is about a 20 minute walk away. DH said he'll walk me on the first day as I'm so anxious and plus it will be the most walking I've done in months Blush. Then they will review it at the end of the week to see what I want to do for the next week and so on. I am very anxious about going back but I am also looking forward to it because I'm just looking forward to getting back to some level of normalcy.

Natsku Glad your appt went well and have my fingers crossed that your other appt will be soon.

Just Do you have a pregnancy pillow? Idk if that might help if not. I don't have one yet, I feel like I'd like to try one as I'm normally quite a bad sleeper anyway and the last few months have been horrendous what with the HG interrupting my sleep so badly. Does anyone have recommendations for pregnancy pillows? I had a look on Mothercare as there are some in the sale still but I had no idea which one to go for Confused.

Lucinda I can't believe I'm still at the bottom of the list!! It sorta makes me feel like I've made no progress at all towards the date haha. Oh well I should be grateful really it's not like I want other women to come and suffer as well.

Dead I'm glad you're doing a lot better, hope you and baby are both well Brew

LucindaE · 04/01/2018 12:59

Ah, that book is by Caitlin Dean from Pregnancy Sickness Support, isn't it? I've heard it's really good. I think she's on the Facebook group, too...
HereComesAnotherOn2018 Much sympathy over migraines. They are truly nightmarish, and with an LO...

That's good news about work meadow. Pregnancy pillows are great, I have one of the long "body pillow" type, in fact we all have one - me, OH, and DD!

Elephantgrey · 04/01/2018 13:32

Herecomesanotherone I find drinking harder than eating. I have a dry breadstick in the morning and then something to drink when I get to work. I have a lot of ice lollies and food with water in like soup and cucumber.

I have just ordered a pregnancy pillow it is a big triangular one. Meadow I know what you mean about it being hard to choose. When mine comes I will try and write a review. It is good about your work situation. It sounds more manageable.

A lady at work told me she had hyperemersis when she was pregnant ( her daughter is now at university). She got a lot better after 20 weeks.

I have got my consultant appointment tomorrow. I have prepared a long list of questions so I hope we get a good amount of time. My husband is coming with me to make sure I get some answers. I am not entirely sure which of my many issues prompted the referral. The midwife said that the first consultant is usually about your care in pregnancy but I can ask about the birth.

My appointment with the perinatal team has come through. I have been referred to the consultant. On the phone the guy who did the triage thing said that I could be referred for a online course, to see the mental health nurse or the consultant so I must be the highest level of bonkers. I am a little bit worried now but hopefully they will be able to help.

justtheonethen · 04/01/2018 13:53

Meadow I was bottom of the list for AGES and it drove me mad. Equally you don't want anyone else to join so it's a funny one!
I have a massive pillow and it's heaven, once I get to sleep I do stay asleep and only wake up when I need the loo (which can be frequent!).

I have this one-

https://www.preciouslittleone.com/product-information/55/32835/preciouslittleone-12ft-body-baby-support-pillow-white/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1aXIn9S32AIVSbXtCh0FSwDIEAQYASABEgK55DBwE

I like it as it supports my back and I can wrap around it. Stops me rolling about too.

Really great news about work.

Natsku I'm sure it's not too bad, even if it is it's a rarely seen angle I expect Wink

Here I found drinking really hard, harder than nibbling a piece of cheese for example in the early days. I got put off dry crackers etc as I had a horrific throwing up session where I was so dry it was like coughing up a fur ball Envy.

Elephant hope consultant app goes well. Good you have lots of questions because in my experience they have no idea why you're there and expect you to tell them!
You're not bonkers, I think it's great you go straight to consultant. Hope it helps.

I'm officially too pregnant for life. I went to the shops today (first time since being pregnant!!!!) and bought a baby outfit for hospital and some bits like muslins /hospital bag things. I went to two shops and I had to sit down after each one. My back hurt, my bump was rock hard and my feet hurt Blush
