Pregnancy & anti depressants

Hey guys.... I have just found out I am pregnant. This will be my 3rd child but it's still very early days.
I am currently on antidepressants which I never have been while pregnant before so I just wondered if anyone had been in this same situation & whar they did etc?
I know the doctor/midwife will tell me all the info I need to know but I just want a heads up if what to expect.
Thanks

They may switch you onto an antidepressant that is more safe. Apparently they are all mostly alright, just some are better than others. Mine has just been switched for this very reason. Don't worry 🙂

Aw that's good to know! Thank you!
Hormones are bad enough without having to give up tablets too haha. I'd feel very sorry for hubby if that was the case haha xx

I am on venlafaxine. I was on my meds for my first pregnancy, not my second but and back on them again now.
I was referred to mental health midwife team with both pregnancies for an assessment. Due to medication (and other concerns this pregnancy) I am consultant lead. The MH team are there if I need them but not at all overbearing.
With my first pregnancy I had the glucose test, an extra scan at 36 weeks to check on baby and I was kept in for 48hrs after delivery to check that baby had no withdrawal symptoms (she was fine).
This was my biggest concern this time as I did not want to stay in hospital for so long after unless it was needed. I have been reassured that guideline have changed and I will only need to stay for 12hours, if all is well with baby then I can be discharged.
I will still have a glucose test, I have extra growth scans booked (small baby last time) so baby will be looked at then too.
The best advice I have been given is just to monitor yourself and your moods. You know your normal patterns, keep an eye on any unusual behaviour and seek help if you feel you need it. But also remember that you've got a tonne of hormones causing havoc in your body, Donne kind to yourself too.

PM of you'd like any more info. Smile

@1fedupmama

It's a balancing exercise, balancing the (small) risks against the risks to the mother of not being on them (and the risk to the baby of the mother being mentally unwell). I was on 40mg of Fluoxetine but reduced it to 20mg when TTC (I'm 10 weeks pregnant). To be honest I expected it to be really tough on 20mg but I'm doing okay with lots of support from my DH. I know LOADS of women who have been on antidepressants during pregnancy and as yet no adverse effects. We can only do our best. Good luck!

I was on 30mg of citalopram when I found out I was pregnant. The doctors told me of the risks of the development of the babies heart in the first trimester and then lung issues in the final trimester. To be honest the anxiety of just hearing that made me come off them cold turkey... I had 3 awful weeks of various side effects. And I have noticed a difference since coming off them. But I have also taken up therapy in replacement.

Only you will know what is right for you, either way isn't wrong. I just knew if I didn't try and come off them and there was a problem with my baby I would blame myself (and let's be honest there probably wouldnt be but that's my anxiety for you). I feel fine now... still anxious but focusing on the now rather than the what if x

Thanks for all ur advise guys.
I have spoken with the doctor. I was in 150mg sertraline & 50mg amatryptaline (not sure if that's how u spell it haha) they have advised I come off the 50s & decrease the sertaline to 100mg for now & ive to go back in a couple of weeks to see how that is effecting me & go from there. I've had a constant head ache since this change & I haven't been sleeping too great (but I suppose that comes with the territory)
Hopefully these side effects wear off soon & then the pregnancy flies in (wishful thinking! Haha) x
