Oh Gd yeah, all the time - my ds seemed to have hiccups loads - he seemed to get them quite a bit as a newborn too. Nothing to worry about and completely normal.

sniff · 21/04/2007 10:08

yes all the time its because they are tasting the amniotic fluid

lulumama · 21/04/2007 10:09

totally normal, they are swallowing amniotic fluid and practising breathing movements, nothing to worryu about

JaneAustenAllegro · 21/04/2007 10:11

oh yes - it's lovely..............

god I'm so broody

SoupDragon · 21/04/2007 10:12

Yep. Had this with all 3 of mine and all 3 were hiccupy babies too

plibble · 21/04/2007 10:12

It was one of my favourite things. Mini plibble would have gone quiet for hours and I would start to wonder if she was ok and then I'd feel her hiccup so I knew she was ok.
She still has hiccups every day and she's 10 months old, but it isn't the 5 times a day that it was when she was first born.

newade · 21/04/2007 10:16

Thanks girls..Im mentioned this to my mother-in-law and she appeared perplexed..

DD did it a lot and was a very hiccupy newborn, DS less so.
Just wait till the baby starts hiccuping when you are in the bath, that really is VERY strange to watch

mamijacacalys · 21/04/2007 11:05

Agree that it's lovely. Both mine did it occasionally. Reassuring in many ways.

jabuti · 21/04/2007 11:18

no i havent but im looking forward to it! am 25 weeks now and only started getting regular kicks (placenta position didnt help in the begining). but i want the hiccups too!!!!

Blandmum · 21/04/2007 11:29

dd had it lots. ds only once

Tommy · 21/04/2007 11:31

DS3 had a lot of hiccups - he still does

cece · 21/04/2007 11:47

Yes DD had this all the time and continued to do so for quite a few months after she was born too!

NatalieJane · 21/04/2007 11:47

DS1 didn't get hiccups that much while I was pregnant with him, and neither did he get them lots as a baby, DS2 used to get anything between 4-9 lots of hiccups a day in utero, and at 4 and a half months old still gets them about 3 times a day, I also used to hear a clicking sound while I was pregnant with him, and sure enough he has a clicky shoulder.

I think it makes it all the more real, in my (rather muddled) mind DS1 only really 'came alive' when he was born, but DS2 had already started living before he was born, I know that sounds a bit crazy but that's how I see it!!

nally · 21/04/2007 11:52

yep, my dd1 would do it all of the time, when i was trying to sleep! my other dc also did it but at more convenient times of the day!

MKG · 21/04/2007 11:55

It's cute the first few times. But at 35 weeks the baby is very low and when he gets the hiccups I swear his head kicks back and it's as if he's trying to bust out early.

PizPizPiz · 21/04/2007 12:09

Oh yes, she never stops! and if she's anything like dd1, she'll go on for a few weeks after the birth too

NatalieJane · 21/04/2007 12:16

Hello!!! 35 weeks already? My how time flies when you are having fun

PinkTulips · 21/04/2007 12:44

both minhe used to have hiccuping fits that lasted for hours. very cute, although alarming when they come very quickly!

apparently it happens when they practice their breathing and amniotic fluid gets in the lungs... so it's a good thing as it means bubs is learning to breathe

ludaloo · 21/04/2007 12:58

ooooh I remember those....[broody emoticon]

PurpleLostPrincess · 22/04/2007 12:24

Both of mine got them all the time both in and out of the womb. Looking forward to it with this one as I'm needing all the reassurance I can get tbh. Does anybody remember roughly when you start to feel it? (I'm now 18+1)

Budababe · 22/04/2007 12:26

Yup! DS used to get them all the time.
