Menstrual cramps at 38 weeks!

Hi,

For the past weeks I’ve had on and off what feels like mild menstrual cramps. However last night I started having them what felt like on and off, had pains in my pelvis. I stayed awake a bit to just see how they went and then fell asleep hoping that they might end up going by the morning.

I’ve woken up this morning and have the same feeling, but feel really sick and just generally rubbish too. The feeling in my pelvis is still there too.

I’ve googled it to see what others had experienced and som have said that’s how their labours started and others have said they had menstrual cramps for weeks before labour. I just wanted to know other peoples experiences and any advice anyone has?

I would love the baby to come before Christmas but I think I’m just being too hopeful. It’s my first baby so everything is completely new to me! X

The on and off cramps have probably been baby settling and getting engaged. I had these but only for an afternoon about 5 days before I went into labour. But they were constant, like I was getting my period, not periodic like contractions. When labour actually started, yes, the first 2 hours were period like cramps, but they came regularly, every 6 minutes or so like contractions would. I knew I was in labour because my waters went just before the period cramps started up. My daughter was born about 10 hours later. So very well could be the start of things, especially if you otherwise feel ill. I would rest or take a shower and see how you feel after that. If it's really labour, it will carry on.
