Oh RTKM - I remember this time so very well. I had a slight bleed at around 5 weeks, went to drs at around 6 weeks and had a scan. No heartbeat and fetal pole small for dates. A very anxious week ensued but fetal pole was correct size for dates at second scan with heart beat.

The fact they were able to see a hb is a very good sign. Hopefully as long as you still have pg symptoms and no further bleeding all will be well. I will have everything crossed for you and hope you manage to stay chilled. Try not to worry.

Thanks for the messages

Sorry should have explained it wasn't me in OP

This is her 3rd IVF cycle and I am really trying to be positive for her

Not medically qualified, but am an IVF veteran. Her hcg level is on the low end of the scale for that stage of pregnancy. Her clinic will be looking for her hcg levels to double every 48 - 72 hours, so her levels haven't increased very much. Always been told that hcg needs to be > 1000 to identify the gestational sac clearly and then about a week later to pick up the h/b.

If they have identified the h/b then that's good news.

Hope it works out for her.

RTKangaMummy · 20/04/2007 19:33

Thanks

I hope works too

I don't know about the Hcg levels, but I had similar scans with both DS1 and 2 (had problems with bleeding throughout both pgs) Heartbeat is a very positive sign. I hope everything goes well for her, I can remember all too clearly that horrible mixture of hope and fear, and paranoia at every little twinge and cramp

RTKangaMummy · 20/04/2007 19:46

Thanks for support for her

One of my close friends had a similar situation a while ago, and was in fact totally convinced she was miscarrying, or feotus had died. She had numerous scans and blood tests and it took a while to get a conclusive answer. It all settled down at about the 8 week mark though, and she went on to have a gorgeous bruiser of baby!

lemonaid · 20/04/2007 19:51

If you have a heartbeat at 6 weeks then that's GOOD. Not out-of-the-woods, start-stocking-the-nursery good, but good nevertheless.

Greensleeves · 20/04/2007 19:54

With both my pregnancies I had emergency scans at 6/7 weeks because of bleeding. In both cases there was a faint heartbeat. They are 4 and 2 now

Try and keep calm (daft I know)

bossykate · 20/04/2007 19:54

heartbeat vvvv good news. i have had a successful pg after bleeding - it's much more common than you think. hth and good luck.

Greensleeves · 20/04/2007 19:55

In fact RTKM with ds1 the sonographer told me to "go home and pray" because he was so faint, and the bleeding was quite significant.

I do hope it all goes well for you, I know it's very worrying to have a scare this early.

ScummyMummy · 20/04/2007 19:58

I found out I was carrying 2 prawns with heartbeats at a scan after a small bleed. They are 8 and almost human now. Good luck to your friend, kanga.

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 19:59

aww

yes both times with the bleeding, dunno re HCG

they are now 21 months and 3

hope your friend is ok, some people do just bleed i think

RTKangaMummy · 20/04/2007 20:39

Thanks that is very encouraging
