Zika and TTC

I hope I'm posting in the right place.. I'm looking for some advice about tests available for the Zika virus.

My partner and I will be travelling to Cuba next year for a family wedding and so we really cannot cancel. However - we were really hoping to try for another baby on our return as our first is already older than we would have hoped by the time we had another.

I have read they advise to wait 6 months before TTC as the male can pass on ZIKA through sperm. I'm absolutely devastated as we had so many plans and we weren't made aware of this at the time of booking!

Anyway... thanks for reading my life story... I would just like to know if there any private tests available to check for ZIKA in men so we don't have to wait the 6 months. I am aware there will be a price tag but exploring every option at the moment!

Thank you xx

There definitely is

If you can't see it advertised on a private clinic's site just email them to ask. DH was tested for same reason (negative) which meant we didn't have to wait!

Cost about £80 I think, so expensiveish but worth it to us

Actually 4 out of 5 people who get infected don’t present any symptoms so looking out for symptoms isn’t a good idea.

Hopefully someone will be along who has direct experience of the private tests, but just to echo pp that not everyone who has Zika gets any symptoms, and those that do don't necessarily get cold symptoms. Some will get fever and a rash as well/instead. Also don't assume that just because you don't think you/your partner have had any mosquito bites, that you're in the clear. You may get bitten and just not find the bite.

Finally, remember that no diagnostic test for anything is ever 100% accurate. Ask the clinic how accurate their test is before giving them any money.
