Scan at 7 weeks worrying! Has Anybody Come Across this?

Hi there, I'm 8 weeks pregnant and due to some early bleeding (6 weeks) I had a scan at 6 weeks and 7 weeks. The 6 week scan showed a sac with a yolk and all looked good. But my scan on Monday was really confusing. The scanner said she could see what she 'thought' was a fetal pole and 'maybe' a heartbeat in a 12mm sac? (think it was the sac that was 12mm, was slightly hysterical!). BUT she could also see a 6mm 'something' (unspecified pathology) that could be bleeding, could be a twin who hasn't developed. She said, 'I can't say it isn't bad news'. Got another scan on Monday and feeling really nervous. Has anybody come across this? Thanks! jakB

I don't have any advice but will bump this thread up in case anyone else knows what could be going on. xx

I bled early on and a scan at 8 weeks showed a normal foetus and alongside an empty sac with a bloodclot nearby. They said it may have been a twin.I don't think it's that unusual. My EPU midwife was lovely and would do her best to fit me in for a scan or chat and put my mind at rest around that time as I also developed an infection a few weeks later. She was realistic though and said if I started to lose the other one they couldn't do much to stop it. Thankfully, I had a healthy baby boy last December - you must be due then as well?

Hope all goes ok for you - it must seem like long time to wait x

When i went for my 12 weeks scan and saw 2 babies there was also a 3rd, but the baby hadn't developed properly. I had no bleeding but my body re-absorbed him/her. When i went for another scan nearly a week later the 3rd baby had almost totally disapeared. It can happen with or without bleeding.

The pregnancy went well after that, and had 2 gorgeous babies 6 mths later.

Hope all goes ok for you on Monday.xx

becktheneck, oh, that sounds so similar. I wondered why they didn't see two sacs at 6 weeks? But then I suppose it's so early they may have missed it, particularly if it wasn't developing 'normally'. I am due in early December, yes. Fingers crossed. twinmummyx2, I had no idea that could happen. Maybe it was twins then? Although it is sad to think that one hasn't developed properly, it does give an explanation (rather than ominous 'unidentified pathology).

My early scan (with ds2- NOT autistic- I've read your other thread- it's Jimjams) showed something similar. She checked out the obvious one then said "and we have somethng else here" (I thought 'oh fu*" twins') but then she said it was just the site of some bleeding and normal.

I had a repeat scan a week later as well.

Gess, that's interesting that you had something similar. Had it gone when you had a scan the week after?

yes- so they said it must have been a patch of bleeding and apparently was very common. These early scans can be very worrying as everything's so grainy and hard to see. Make sure you put your feet up!

Thanks Gess, fingers crossed mine is something similar. The woman who did the scan was incredibly negative.
