Growth scan

Anybody had any experience with growth scans?? Went to my 28 week midwife appointment and I measured 25, so she’s sent me for a scan that I will get in the next couple of days. I’m trying not to worry and I know everyone’s different but was just wondering if anyone has had them before and how everything turned out? X

I had to have them every 3/4 weeks as I had twins. Please don't worry.. it is so hard to get an accurate reading sometimes that there is a margin of error.
My last scan at 35 weeks estimated both babies at 6lb.. born at 36+4 they were 5lb13 and 6lb15!
Measuring bellies is not exact too don't forget.. hope all goes well :)

Hi op, I had a few with dd1 for the opposite reason, she was always measuring so big. I had a scan the day before she was born where they predicted an 11 pounder.....she was 7.2 pounds. Every case is different and perhaps you are measuring small, it I just wanted to say try not to worry, there's a lot of margin for error as they are so small, and at least you're getting another scan and they're keeping an eye on you. Best of luck.

I've had 2 so far.
Both times baby was measuring under but it's been put down to the way I'm carrying the baby - plus baby keeps going transverse and back to back...
It's more than likely nothing to worry about and it means you'll get to see your little one on screen again Smile

I had several with my son (now three weeks old) as I had Gestational diabetes. Don't worry - fundal measurements are notoriously inaccurate. Just think of it as an opportunity to get another look at baby. I'm sure all will be great.

I had one today and it was fine! The sonographer was really lovely and reassuring and explained everything that she was doing. Baby turned out to be normal size for everything but her tummy is a teeny bit bigger, so she’s going to be a bit chubby they think lol.

Fine. Was told 3 weeks behind at 30 weeks. Growth scan showed baby actually spot on.

When I was pregnant with my first my bump was always measuring too small. It was basically growing at half speed. It almost became routine that I'd go to the midwife and then the next day go for an "emergency" growth scan. There was never anything wrong with the baby - he grew at the right rate every week. Goodness know why my tummy grew so slowly, he must have been getting so squished!

My midwife said that 99% of the time there's no issue but by measuring the size of the bump it does pick up on the odd occasion where there is a problem. She said the early identification really improved their "statistics" so I'm guessing generally it leads to an ok/good outcome. Good luck!

Hi I have been having them weekly from 32 weeks- I'm now 36. growth fortnightly as here they can't do it twice within 14 days and fluid/blood flow fortnightly as baby is measuring small. They have been very good at explaining everything and not panicking. I think as long as the baby is growing and fluid ect is okay and movements then they just keep an eye as a precaution. They have reiterated to me the importance of movements and to call in if anything is amiss.

Thankyou everyone for your reassuring replies. I have my scan today at 3pm so not long until I find out 😊

Prusik are you tall by any chance? They've said that could be one of the reasons my bump measures small (but no one knows for sure!)

Prusik · 28/11/2017 15:01

@BabyorSanta nope - I'm 5ft4 on a good day. At full term I was measuring 34 ish weeks. My bump grew about 1cm every two weeks rather than 1cm per week. Despite Ds following the curve on his scans,.my.bump dropped.right down the percentile ranges

hfin1992 · 28/11/2017 20:23

Well I've had my scan and I'm measuring within the normal range so I'm happy Smile I don't mind having a small bump as long as she's growing.
