Movement question

Number 2 and I have felt movement since 12 weeks but very sporadically. I’m not 16 weeks and still going a few days without feeling anything in between a day of lots of wriggling.

I take it that’s normal; at what point do you start counting kicks daily?

16 weeks baby is still very small!

HandbagFan · 27/11/2017 14:33

Count The Kicks is from 28 weeks I believe. Certainly nowhere near 16.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 14:36

Great thanks so sporadic for some time! I’ve had two mc this year so a bit anxious.

Yes, really normal. You are getting movements in between, but those are likely the days that you're busy, distracted, on your feet more, so they seem quieter. In the UK now, they are actually moving away from explicitly kick counting, but you should feel movement daily and in a somewhat recognisable pattern from 28 weeks, so plenty of time for that.

Hey Ekphrasis how is it all going? I was going to ask my midwife about this tomorrow. I started feeling movement at about 13 weeks, but haven’t really felt anything last week at all which has concerned me (although saying that I think I just felt something then!) it’s still so worrying isn’t it.

16 week appointment tomorrow and I’m really hoping they’ll listen for the heartbeat.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 15:53

Hi double! ok thanks, 16 weeks now. See the midwife in a week. I think this is the thing that’s mithering me. I felt like I had a lot last week! Hope it goes well at the mw. I don’t know if they always do listen to the hb now though.

I know, but I’m hoping if I ask they will 🤞🏻 Hoping for a nice midwife!

Allthecake · 27/11/2017 21:34

Completely normal to feel nothing at 16 weeks, don't worry about it! Started feeling things at 17 and a half weeks with both of mine and it was sporadic at that point.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 28/11/2017 20:37

I heard the heartbeat today! It was fab, I’ve also been feeling loads more movement. I just wanted to reassure you that after a week of nothing all is still ok 😄

I'm 17+3 and started feeling movement last week. This is my second pregnancy. I saw my mw today and she almost eye-rolled me when I mentioned it as if she didn't believe me and said "that's nice" in a bit of a weird way. She didn't listen for a heart beat either. It was a really horrible mw visit actually it's left me feeling really down and dreading going again.

jellypi3 · 28/11/2017 21:30

You should start to notice a pattern from about 26w. Before then baby is so tiny it can move to a position where you won't feel a thing. Some units won't monitor you until you are 28 weeks.

Ekphrasis · 28/11/2017 22:19

That’s great double!

I think I felt some today.

I felt it at 17 weeks with my first; feeling it much earlier has thrown me but obviously they’re smaller. You forget so much; but then again it was over 5 years ago!

I felt first movement at 16 weeks and then only felt a small movement about once a week until I was 20 weeks. Regular movement didn’t start until about 23-24 weeks.

Your baby is still teeny right now so I wouldn’t worry :)
