i just did a pregnancy test - waited the designated time of 5 minutes and it came up negative. then i decided to read the instructions. it said to leave the stick in the wee for 5 seconds but i just dipped it in and fetched it out straight away. do you think this would have affected the result or can i safely say i am not pregnant?

did the control window react?

mnerindisguise · 18/04/2007 13:06

there was the control line if thats what you mean?

if the control line reacted, then that means the test was carried out properly.

And a negetive result is negetive.

divastrop · 18/04/2007 13:09

personally, and in my extensive experience,i wouldnt believe a negative preg test untill i got my period.if enough wee was soaked up to give a result then i would think its ok,was it a digital one or the bog standard 2 line job?

mnerindisguise · 18/04/2007 13:11

bog standard 2 line job from poundland. i know they work cos i used them when i was pregnant with ds.

how late are you?

It is possible to have a false negetive. I was two weeks late before a pregnancy test showed positive.

mnerindisguise · 18/04/2007 13:11

so even if i didn't carry the instructions to a t if theres a control line as far as the test is concerned i did it right?

OP posts:
belgo · 18/04/2007 13:12

if there's a control line, then yes you carried out the test right.

mnerindisguise · 18/04/2007 13:13

i'm not sure but i know i'm quite late. also my last period was very light and only lasted a day.

stick it back in the wee for a bit - won't be accurate but if the pregnancy line reacts at all you go out and buy another one.

belgo · 18/04/2007 13:14

wait another few days and test again.

DimpledThighs · 18/04/2007 13:14

haha disguised lady - you keep track of your periods in a simliar way to me (i.e. not)

mnerindisguise · 18/04/2007 13:14

cant redip cos i through it away.

if I was to offer you a big steaming cup of balck coffee followed by a tequila chaser what would you feel like...

a) happy
b) your stomach would turn

a=negative
b=positive

this test is very accurate for me.

divastrop · 18/04/2007 13:23

i think i did about 13 testa with dd2 and didnt get a positive till i was about 10 days late(and i do keep track of my periods, well i used to,havent had one for quite some time now),it was the same with dd3,i did loads of tests.it was one of those cheapo tests that came up positive in the end.

belgo · 18/04/2007 13:32

13 tests! That must have cost a fortune! The manufacturers must be making a fortune.

mnerindisguise · 18/04/2007 13:59

cheapo ones are 3 for a £1 in poundland and worked for me straight away. i had missed 2 periods, but actually was only 2 weeks pregnant when i found out, and had i been having periods wouldn't have even been due on for a few more days when i took it.

after messing around with a couple of is it or isn't it a line, did it work, etc, we went digital. I can honestly recommend it. There is no middle ground and you know for sure. 13 tests is a little excessive, even for a control freak like me!

divastrop · 18/04/2007 20:36

they were the 89p ones from home bargains.i was getting annoyed at the time cos i was sure i was preg (it wasnt planned)but was getting negative tests.well,tbh,5 of them were negative,4 of them were 'is that a line??'one was 'oh s**t' and the other 3 were 'nahhhh,i imagined it...oh no i didnt'.i do feel ratherwhen i think back.
