Hello hope someone can help?

I went for a scan today at 34 weeks due to having GD, i wis told that baby has stopped growing it could be due the placenta restricting food to the baby
They said they will scan again in two weeks and if she is not growing they will have to induce
I am very scared
This is first baby after 5 years of trying.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Advice and guidance appreciated xxx

Did they just leave you like this? How long has it since the scan?
I really wouldn't be comfortable to be left for two weeks like this esp if there's an issue with the placenta.
Has baby been moving etc?

2 weeks sounds long to me. My SIL had this and the baby was eventually born at 42 weeks - weighing just 4.5lbs! If I were you I would ask for another scan sooner than that, even if you have to pay for a private scan. I'd also be keeping a really careful eye on the baby's movements.

On the plus side whilst 34 weeks is early, and you'd ideally want to get past 37 if you can, if they give you steroids for the baby, everything should be just fine even if he/she came today!

Baby is very active, they said to keep an eye out for my sugar levels for the next three days and if they go high then I should ring up .

But with scan they said they will do another scan in two weeks and if baby is still not growing then they will induce me.

As its just slightly under the C (used a word i cant remember)

Two weeks between growth scans is national standard. Doing it sooner won't tell you anything. I'm assuming they must have done a Doppler scan at the same time as the growth and are happy enough with those figures?

I had this with my son, growth slowed at 28 weeks and stopped at 34. I was monitored daily till 34 weeks and put in hospital on bed rest ( I really didn't want to be induced unless absolutely necessary) my placenta had starting to die and blood flow was restricted. I went into natural labour at 37+6 and my son was born weighing 5lb 7. We had a bumpy journey to start but he is now a bouncing 1 year old.
From what I understand they don't scan weekly as there is a margin of error on scanning and you can over scan and get such different results. However as there is a problem I would request regular CTGs. My consultant was fab I had them daily and she would scan me every 3 days... not for measurements to just so that I could see him and blood flow could be checked

I would push for what ^^ beaglemum said

No experience of this but just wanted to say that the survival rates at this sort of gestation are really good nowadays, there is a lot of info and stats available if you google, which might reassure you.

Best of luck to you and your baby Flowers

I think a scan to check all is ok rather than growth - perhaps the CTG monitoring is a better idea, although a scan could look at the placenta and cord to see if all is ok. So long as baby is bouncing around it sounds ok but you're right to be keeping a v careful eye on it.

Hi I'm going through this at the moment but I don't have GD
I was scanned at 33 weeks and they said she was rather small and not where she should be in terms of growth and weight. They did check the blood flow through to the placenta and measured the fluid which appeared fine.

I had another scan just yesterday And she's gone down on the chart. Not put weight or grown as she should. Again they checked blood flow and measured fluid and I have to go back in around 2 weeks and if it's still the same or not much progress I will be induced and they will get her out early.

It has been stressed to me to monitor movements and if I have any doubts night òr day go straight to hospital to get checked.

It's very worrying but please understand if they were immediately worried they would have you sent off to the hospital there and then.

If they can they will let the baby get as much from being on the inside as possible and induce when they think it's best for baby to come out weather that's sooner or later.

Also it is possible some of these scans can be out with growth. I've been trying to keep that in mind to calm me down.

All I would stress is to keep an eye on baby and yourself and if you have any doubts, contact your midwives / triage / hospital for advice or go and get checked. I've had to wait 2 weeks and now another 2 weeks so I know how unsettling it can be ⚘

I'm am also 34 weeks and 4 days tomarrow I had a growth scan done today and was told that from the last growth scan that was 2 weeks ago baby has only put on 4 lb that's it. I have another appointment on this Thursday. I will have 2 growth scans after this every 2 weeks and have to see consultant to see what he/she decide if I need to be induced. I think h should ask for another scan and continue to get scans done instead of having to wait for 2 weeks for 1 scan.Smile good luck to u and take care
