Taking Cetirizine Antihistimines when pregnant

Hi, I suffer from eczema and always took Cetirizine for my itchy skin, but since pregnant ive laid of them its really flaring up at the moment so could do with taking an odd 1 as it's disturbing my sleep. Has anyone else taken them during pregnancy? Do you know if it's safe? X

No it's not safe according to the instructions it's not safe in the first three months and last six months of pregnancy (according to the packaging I read ) so that's pretty much all of it

I had to stop mine for both pregnancies. I was told it’s not safe. Weirdly enough my hey-fever disappeared and didn’t have to take pills for about 5 yeas. I have started again this year as it seems to have come back.

Ok great thank you for your replys guess it's a trip to the Drs to see if there is something else I can do! It's driving me mad I've resorted to taking ice packs to bed just to keep my skin cool 🤓 seems to be the only thing to help the itching 😔

Doctors will prescribe it during pregnancy (apart from last trimester when it is of most concern) but I wouldn’t take it unless they have directed you to

I was taking it at the beginning when I didn’t realise I was pregnant but it seems to have been ok - I obviously stopped

There isn't a clear answer with ceririzine, therefore it isn't recommended.
I have taken it a few times on advice if my GP - chlorphenamine (piriton) is apparently the safest followed by certirizine. I did quite a bit of research and there is no evidence or reports of any effects on the baby in utero, however there are not proper clinical trials down due to the ethics of trialling on pregnant women.
Certirizine is used for newborn babies also which suggests that even if it passes the placenta it is unlikely to cause adverse affects.
Book a trip to GP and see what they advise, hope you get sorted soon.

I'm 22 weeks and my doctor who is a specialist in pregnancy and fetal medicine prescribed ceiterizine for me last week... Still haven't got script so haven't started taking it but she said it was fine.. I'm just reluctant to take any meds.. But that is just me being over cautious

I take cetirizine daily because I have allergy related asthma. My GP and the consultant at the hospital both told me to carry on taking it throughout my pregnancy because my asthma posed a greater risk than the tablets. Definitely speak to your GP and see what they say.
You have my sympathy, I get eczema too and it's maddening when a flare up happens!

Could you try aveeno to help with the itching until you see a dr? My dad and brother have chronic eczema; my brother has been hospitalised with it several times :(

they both find aveeno helps a lot and it's cheap as chips in boots too! Good luck
