I just don't get it! Surely it would be better to eat nuts so the unborn child would build an immunity to them and then be able to eat them as they grow up! What did people do years ago? Starve!?!?!?!

Indeed. I religiously avoided nuts in pregnancy and my two are both allergic anyway. Very annoying when I think of all those Snickers bars I could have had...

I don't understand if its just peanuts or if we're allowed cashew nuts - I'd love to munch on some!!! I craved peanut butter cups (Reeses) when I was having DD and she is fine!!!

I've been following dietary advice from Patrick Holford's pregnancy nutrition book, which is strict but gives the reasons for everything. He says avoid peanuts if there is a history of asthma, eczema or nut allergy in the family. I'm eating other nuts however since they are such a good source of nutrients, protein and good fats. You can buy delicious nut butters (almond, cashew etc) from health food shops and these may satisfy peanut butter cravings (perhaps!)

I didn't have peanuts whilst pregnant, or anything with nuts in, but I did eat Brazil nuts. My understanding is that you should avoid them if there is a nut allergy history, eczema etc in the family. DF has eczema and is allergic to dairy products, which was evident when he was 6 months, Tom was 1 last year and so far shows no signs.

Are nuts other than peanuts ok to eat? I have a lot of allergies & totally avoided them & their derivatives 1st time round, apart form a satay early on before I realised I was UTD. DD does have eczema but no other allergies apparent & she's 5. If I knew I could do macadamias or cashews I'd be over the moon. MW only said nuts & wasn't specific.

I ate nuts in both my pregnancies, not loads but when i felt like them i had them.

I dont understand it either tbh
