Brown discharge

Hi ladies, a couple weeks ago I starting getting this brown discharge which really worried me so I referred myself to the EPU for an early pregnancy scan. Everything was ok thank God and I was told that it would soon subside which it did. However yesterday I starting getting these twinge like pains and today I have the same brown discharge. Is this normal? Help?!!! Need some reassurance

Cramping in early pregnancy is normal - unless it’s super unbearable then you’d need to get it checked out.

As for the discharge, discharge does vary in pregnancy. Keep an eye on it. I’d ring your GP/EPU as soon as you notice it’s bright red coloured or increases.

Hope this helps x

Hi Lillianrose, just come across your post. I was taken to hospital as I had a bleed yesterday thankfully all ok with bump. Today I have had brown discharge, my husband has been googling a lot and as scary as it is it seems it is quite common but it has really shaken me.

I had a bleed at 12 weeks and the following brown discharge lasted 4/5 more weeks I had scans/swabs and checks but all was ok and currently 20+3.

As long as you haven't got strong cramps, red blood and clots fingers crossed you should be ok.

However for peace of mind you could always asked to be checked again x x

@RustySugars hi! Oh dear! Sounds dead scary. Yeah the more I read the more I see it’s quite common but i don’t know why it happens though.

@Sunshinesaz86 hi! I spoke to someone at EPU and she said to get an appointment with my GP to see if I may have an infection or something. Well that’s easier said than done as work doesn’t like me having time off for appointments without giving a week notice. It’s pathetic if you ask me, what you meant to do?

I have been having a lot of brown spotting too, and I am planning to try and get a scan later this week.

Your work do sound supremely unhelpful. They might just have to lump it. Or might there be a walk in place you could go to near work?

I've had three big bleeds in this pregnancy (now 13 weeks), and brown spotting between. I've been for checkups after each one because I've found them terrifying but everything looked good at my 12 week scan so I've resigned myself to this being "normal" for me. It's really stressful, but it might just be your normal so try not to worry. A quick scan at the EPU should put your mind at rest. Your employer sounds like an arse.

Good luck OP!
