Hello,

I’ve been planning this for 2 years and I’m going to try and conceive early 2018 so I can have a baby born after September (so they’re the oldest of their school year).

Through fertility calculators, it states that if my last period is the 26th of December, fertilisation would probably happen on the 8th if Jan and the baby would be due 2nd October.

How accurate were your due dates were compared to the estimate? And did you use an ‘online due date calculator’ before hand and was these results fairly accurate to the actual birth date?

Due date was 13th November, ds arrived 2nd December!

Flumplet · 18/11/2017 18:11

What if it takes you 6 months to conceive?

Ds was induced on his due date but was born by c-section 2 days later.

YouCantBeSirius · 18/11/2017 18:17

Due 19th February, arrived on 29th February.

In the nicest possible way, you need to relax a bit on the date thing. Is there a reason why you feel you really need a child with a post-September/just after September birthday?

It took me just under 11 months to conceive, what would you do if the same happened for you?

DelphiniumBlue · 18/11/2017 18:47

All 3 were 3 weeks or more early.

expotition · 18/11/2017 18:48

One of mine will be the oldest in his year - because he was 19 days late 😁 It's a lottery!

Also it has not been entirely a good thing as it means paying more for childcare pre-school, if you plan to do that. Not just the extra year compared with being born at the end of August, but all free hours kick in the term after they turn 3 etc, so you pay more if they are born near the beginning of a term. This didn't occur to me in advance!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 18/11/2017 19:49

Mine was 5 weeks early. But I'm in Scotland so we dont have the same cut off dates which mean kids who have just turned 4 have to go to school!

Also agree that I'd chill out a bit on the dates thing. It might work out exactly as planned, or you might have a wee while of trying.

DandySeaLioness · 18/11/2017 19:55

DC1 14 days early
DC2 13 days late Confused

ScarlettInSpace · 18/11/2017 20:03

Well I came off the pill in feb 2011 & started ttc. My due date is 21st January 2018 so I guess on this basis my baby is going to be 6 years & 2 months late!

I wouldn’t wish fertility issues on anyone & I’d love to say just put it all into a spreadsheet and follow the formula, but the worst thing you can do is try to plan nature & put unnecessary pressure on yourself to hit certain dates & timelines.

greenjojocat · 18/11/2017 20:06

16 weeks early, twins born at 24 weeks

NamasteNiki · 18/11/2017 20:12

What's the deal with school year and eldest?

What's the advantage?

My sister was one of the eldest in her and failed 2 of her alevels, had to resit and then got drop kicked out of uni for not doing the work.

I was a summer birthday and one of the youngest. 2 bachelor's degrees and a masters.

It doesnt matter

dantdmistedious · 18/11/2017 20:13

Really you really can’t plan when you’re going to have a baby!

My twins were booked for c section on 1st september which would have been 36 weeks. They turned up on the 1st August. Youngest I the year, technically a year behind their cohort and are doing really well.

Crumbs1 · 18/11/2017 20:17

Mine were all at least 12 days beyond the estimated due date. One was due November 5th and appeared on 28th. Little one was due around 26 July but her birthday is 12 August.

I wouldn’t fret too much re advantages of Autumn children. It’s a statistical advantage and not necessarily so for individuals. My summer borns we’re fine and did slightly better all the way through than my two Autumnal ones.

Lozmatoz · 18/11/2017 21:31

My second was a September baby. I calculated my myself when I’d be ovulating, it was mid/late December if I remember rightly. Born 5 days late on 28 sept

Bumdishcloths · 18/11/2017 22:08

Due 11th October, arrived 13th. I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to plan conception - delivery depends entirely on the pregnancy itself. Besides which, the hospitals are always packed to the rafters around that time as everybody apparently tries to do the same thing!

CL1982 · 19/11/2017 01:22

OP-as someone who took 11 months to conceive then had x3 miscarriages...don't put to much pressure on yourself to be uber specific about your pregnancy or birth. Having the attitude of 'I want to have the baby specifically at this time' can really be high pressure especially as babies come on their own time schedule from conception to dd.

Just a thought..... Sadly it just doesn't always happen the way we want it sometimes! I know I was pretty shocked when it didn't just happen for us...

Tilapia · 19/11/2017 07:24

I have a September baby. My last period started on 20th Dec, not sure when I ovulated / conceived but the baby was born on 25th Sept (due 28th Sept).

devondream · 19/11/2017 07:31

Both born exactly 3 weeks early. Spontaneous labours followed by emergency c sections.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 19/11/2017 07:41

For my DD my lmp was 28th Dec she was born 15th October, which was 15 days after my overly optimistic NHS due date. I think probably about 6 days after my actual due date (based on my usual cycle). I was induced.

We also wanted a sept/Oct baby second time around but despite concocting first time again, I miscarried and then took a while to conceive so my September baby will hopefully be born in May.

All I’m saying is don’t plan too much! TTC a baby isn’t necessarily as predictable as you’d like it to be.

Good luck, babies are lovely, doesn’t really matter when in the year they are born!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 19/11/2017 07:42

*concieving not concocting

TriJo · 19/11/2017 14:22

DS was due 20th March by scan, born 28th March. Dates were a bit handwavey because he was conceived during a very long cycle, LMP date would have had him due in February and I was already 7 weeks when I got my BFP!

DS2 is due 12th February... wait and see!

MagicMoneyTree · 19/11/2017 16:53

Mine came a few weeks early but after 15 months ttc his place in his school year was the last thing on my mind. It’s nice when things fall into place the way you want them to, but I wouldn’t focus too much on your best-case scenario just because ttc can be so bloody unpredictable for so many couples. Good luck.

Hushabyelullaby · 19/11/2017 17:33

We tried for a year for my Dd. Neither of us have any medical reason why I didn’t get pg sooner, and we certainly did our share of trying. You can’t always assume you’ll fall pregnant immediately, although I hope it happens quickly for you. I had my DD 8 days before due date as I was induced, although it wasn’t planned.

Hushabyelullaby · 19/11/2017 17:40

Oh and I meant to say that I was due on 7th November but was born on 11th August, 13ish weeks early and was one of the youngest in my year!

Hulababy · 19/11/2017 17:42

DD was born following induction and a CS 12 days after her due date.
