Had DD1 11 months ago. Took a pregnancy test this morning and I’m pregnant. Only had one period since having DD, about 3 months ago.

Anyone have any advice as to when to call midwife? I know they won’t want to see me until 8 weeks but I suppose I could realistically be anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months pregnant. What will they do if I explain, anyone been in the same position?

You should def go in for a scan to see where you are. They'll want to check how far along you are :)

Go To the doctors first

Called the doctors but the first appointment with the MW is in two months so I’m worried I will miss the 12-week scan window. Do I have any other options except pay for a private scan?

To add - in my area is it not possible to self-refer to the hospital for a scan. You have to ask your community MW (based at GPS) for an appointment.

No advice as i’m in the same situation so following. Hope someone pops over with an answer soon.

In my humble opinion the doctors will ask you if you did a pregnancy test and then pat you on the hand and say 'congratulations, see the midwife!'

OP, what are are you in? Do you have a walk in facility in your maternity unit? I know Bath have one (my cousin works there) and a few others so worth looking into that and then going in to see what they say. You can always say you're concerned, have pains etc. I had recurrent miscarriages and phoned the EPU at the local hospital and they fit me in for an earlier scan?

Or the private ones are good. They're around £100 - i think Mothercare host them (Baby bond) at large stores :)

Sorry, what county! That made no sense....

badhabitsdiehard · 20/11/2017 12:06

I’m in East Midlands. There’s no walk in maternity unit - there isn’t even an Early Pregnancy Unit (before your dating scan you’re sent to Gynae with any issues). It’s confusing how it’s different across the country.

Hoping the MW will read my notes and call me tomorrow with a view to squeezing me in sooner. If not, I guess I will have to pay or wait...
