Has anyone come across this? My little sister who is 21 weeks along has just been diagnosed with this. Has anyone else had it? Help! She is really really worried and as a consequence so am I!

A friend of mine had it and now has a lovely, healthy dd. What have the medics said - are they concerned?

Oh thank you beansprout for replying! Sis had a perfectly normal scan at 19 weeks and found out baby is a girl. The doc says that everything else appears normal. But, of course she is freaking anyway because every time she goes to the doctors they tell her there is some other thing to worry about (she had strep b, tested positive as a carrier for cystic fibrosis and before all this had a first trimester miscarriage)
and now I feel all wobbly for her because I so want everything to be ok...

What exactly happened with your friend?

It's someone I work with. Don't know a huge amount I'm afraid other than she got the diagnosis but they said that everything could still be ok (although obviously she was worried at the time). She had various checks but it really was all fine, it's just one of those things. Easy not to be worried after the event and your poor sister, with one thing and another, must be worried, but I really would take your cue from the drs etc. What have they said?

Beansprout-
The doctors are telling her not to be concerned but she wonders if they are whitewashing it a bit because she is an emotional pregnant woman. I have told her to take the doctors word. She is in America and the doctors I find tend to be overly cautious over there. So, if there was anything wrong I feel that they would be running lots of tests, scans and what have you. You just never know with this pregnancy thing do you? It makes me feel blessed to have a healthy ds. I just found out last night that I'm expecting number 2 now and won't take anything for granted!

Really - number 2? Woohoo!!! Congratulations!!!!!

I'm sure the doctors would let your sister know of any risks involved, any precautions she might need to take, or any additional monitoring that might be necessary. She also has a lovely sister in you so I know she will get lots of support too.

Fingers crossed there's another MNer who knows a bit more about this than me.

When are you due?!!!

Flossam · 21/07/2004 11:51

Congratulations littletree!

littletree · 21/07/2004 18:37

hmmm.... so far no one else seems to have heard of it... anyone?

beansprout- I'm only 5 weeks along, so we have guesstimated the due date to be 30 March

This one of the reasons I dislike scans to some extent - they can be very alarming and cause ditress prior to the delivery of a normal baby. I have often seen babies born with only 2 vessels. It might be that at a future scan they will identify 3 vessels and they might only see 2 at the minute due to technical difficulties of scanning at this gestation. 2 vessels can indicate developmental problems but they would be identified on scan also. If the doctors are not concerned then I think your sister should be reassured.
