H&M Mama sizing

I'm 24 weeks pregnant, 5'2 and usually size 6-8. This will be DC3 and I've found in the past that most maternity lines run big.

Anyway, I ordered a bunch of maternity bits from H&M, mostly in size XS, with that in mind.

The clothes are frigging tiny. I can't get my head around it. They are like normal size 6 and even with these supposed 'ruching' at the sides to accomodate a belly, just don't really seem to stretch? I'm going to keep them as they're actually really nice and will do for the postnatal period, but they'll certainly not do me up until term.

Anyone else found this?

I’m only very early on so have never bought maternity clothes. However, I generally find the their sizing awful and need to have massive sizes from there.

I had some Mama stuff last pregnancy (so a few years ago) and found that size M fit me just fine and I’m normally a 10/12 so I guess that’s about right? So their sizing must be more accurate than other brands you’ve tried maybe.

Maybe it is that their sizing is not so much small as 'accurate', i.e. they don't do vanity sizing. It's just that there seems to be not a huge amount of accomodation for an actual belly! I've ordered 2 sweatshirts and they're not in any way slouchy like sweatshirts, more like v fitted tops. And 2 tops for underneath stuff, both of which again are tiny but without that space for a belly.

Anyway lesson learned, I'm going to stick to stretch jersey from now on! I found last time that ASOS sizing worked well, but the clothes were just a bit cheap and nasty.

H&M sizing always runs small. I'm an 8 generally (although I do gain a bit all over in pregnancy) and their size S fits me fine. They're my cheap maternity staples, although I size up a bit again for the final few months.

H&M sizing definitely runs small. I'm a 12 but need a Medium (14-16) in their standard and maternity sizes. I also find they don't always allow for growth in other areas - i.e. they allow for bump to grow but not your arse or thighs! Lovely if you are very neat but my body tries to make itself perfectly spherical when I'm pregnant.

Next are good - just get your normal (pre-pregnancy) size and they grow with you.

When i went into H&M last time they had a sign uo on their maternity sizing they say to go normal size first trimeaster, up a size in 2nd trimester and 2sizes in third trimester or something equally random....
As if anyone wants to buy new maternity clothes every 3 months.

H&M sizing is always a bit weird. I don't buy without trying everything on.

That said, I'm in a pair of size 14 H&M Mama jeans right now that are a better fit now below the bump at 27 weeks than they were when I bought them at 10 weeks...

WineAndTiramisu · 16/11/2017 20:32

I needed larger sizes in H&M maternity as well, I'm a 12 normal and went for large to give some bump growing room!

CL1982 · 16/11/2017 20:57

I'm a 16-18 on the bottom and can't get my LEGS into their maternity stuff let alone my arse. Their tops are ok though! I think they cut for quite straight up and down (even maternity) so if you're smaller busted/slim hipped they fit better maybe?

welshweasel · 16/11/2017 20:59

I found I needed my usual size but I have no arse and slim legs. Jojo on the other hand, crazily huge sizing, I've never been a medium anywhere but there!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 16/11/2017 21:55

I had a brilliant pair of H&M mat trousers in my first pregnancy - a size bigger than my usual, but fit really well, really comfy, good quality. Second pregnancy I attempted H&M again - went to try on a pair of jeans, got my usual size and the next size up, just in case. I'm normally a very standard size 10 (not vanity sized). When even the size 16 maternity jeans wouldn't go past my thighs (let alone over my bum, and forget doing up the button), I just gave up and vowed never to buy any maternity stuff from there ever again. I have no idea what the fuck they're thinking with the sizing. V frustrating!
