Pregnancy and cold sores

My friend gave me a hug this morning and I noticed she had a cold sore.

I am 7w4d with my second and i’m a lot more anxious in this pregnancy than I was in my first.

Will there be any risk of getting the herpes virus from just hugging someone? I think my cheek brushed against my friend’s but I didn’t go anywhere near the side that the cold sore was on.

Am I just worrying unnecessarily?

Normal rules of cold sore transmission apply! It's not an airborne virus. You're fine.

I fully sympathise though with the rampant early pregnancy paranoia about any potential contagions. I felt like that at the beginning too. It'll get easier I promise.

Big hugs and lots of smiles to you xxxxx

Thank you so much for your kind words and reassurance TheVoice - you are definitely the voice of reason (not like your name this time!), and have made me feel a lot more happy! Big hugs back xxx
