Sweep experiences?

Hi,

Am now 2 days over due and booked in to see the midwife for a sweep today.
First baby and have to admit I'm a bit nervous ( I know Labour is going to be worse but I can't help feel a bit nervous about it!) Just wondered if anyone has any experiences of this and how likely it is to work?

Well it has a 30% chance of wirking if your body is ready to go into labour 🙂

Sweeps arn't too painful at all I had 3 in my pregnancy and although all were successful none of them did anything to help with bringing on labour (but i was between 37 and 39 weeks).

If when you are there you are finding the whole experience too much and too painful then you can always ask them to stop.

I wasn't overly worried about it until my SIL said hers was worse than her Labour! That made me question how likely it was to work and if it was worth it!

I would really like baby here sooner rather than later though so think I'll just go and like you said ask them to stop if it's really uncomfortable

With my first a sweep didn't work for me.

I'm booked in at 10.30 today for my first one @lemonicelolly1 , watching this thread closely as I'm terrified :,)

Mine was a bit uncomfortable but not painful. I had a show and some cramping/braxton hicks that evening but labour didnt start until a week later. Wasn't disappointed though as I found out my cervix was already changing ready for labour, so it gave me some confidence that my body knew what to do 😊 good luck!

Hi guys, well I'm 2 cm and cervix is getting soft! :o I didn't expect that even though I've been having the odd contraction. Baby is on her side, I have to try and turn her with a yoga ball.

Sweep wasn't as painful as I was expecting, smear was so much more painful.

Boyfriend noticed she had long nails and kept her engagement ring on though! Ouch 😂

When I last looked into it (6 years ago) there was no evidence to suggest it was effective. Given it is sometimes very painful this makes it bad value as procedures go.

If you've never had pain during a smear you might be okay...but honestly there are many MANY more fun ways to spend half an hour.

I had a sweep at 40+6 with DC1. No pain at all, and I'm a wuss. Very slight discomfort. Had DC 24 hours later, but I think I was already favourable! Good luck.

Luckily wasn't as sore as I was expecting but was really uncomfortable however cervix was unfavourable anyway so the panic and uncomfortableness was most likely for nothing !
