Question about twins - ( paranoid waffle - sorry)

I'm 11 wks pg and haven't got my scan for another 2 weeks. I had an instant, and very strong, BFP when I tested 3 days before AF due and when MW booked me in last week she said the heartbeat was very strong for my dates. Now I'm sure my dates are correct but I'm really worried about having twins and it's doing my head in waiting for the scan.
My question is this: the MW could only find one (very stong) heartbeat but I keep wondering that if I was having identical twins, would their heartbeats start at the same time and be in synch and so create the strong heartbeat that the MW heard?

I know that it's not going to make any difference really and I'm still not going to know for sure until my scan but I just wondered if it was feasible. Any thoughts?

Layperson's opinion only, but I think it's v unlikely if you were carrying twins their heartbeats would be in synch.

I think everyone has a moment of dread before the first scan about how many little beans will be found on camera - I would just try and take the strong heartbeat as a positive sign and hope for the best!

DTs have separate heartbeats honey and mine were never in sync.

It might just be that you have a lovely high level of the pregnancy hormone. And if it is twins come join us on the multiples thread where hopefully we can allay some of your fears.

Congratulations

Iris - don't be embarrassed! I had exactly the same fears, when I did my pg test I had a super strong positive the second the pee hit the stick on the day af was due. I was pretty sick and my boobs were so sore I couldn't wear a bra! I was in agony and terrified at the prospect of twins as a first timer. When I had my scan, I've never been so relieved at the sonographers first words "there's just the one" PHEW!!!!!! I'm sure it's just a lovely strong pregnancy xxx

I really am cringing now But glad I raised a smile
If it is twins though I'll most definately waddle my old bones over for your advice - thanks again.

I think it depends on were in the month you conieved...i conceived my 2nd set on the 25th day of my cycle...well..the other twin was later..but when i did my first preg test at about 5 days overdue for period it was negative.....did another one a week later and it was faintly positive.....and it was twins!

Never can tell...the scnas the place...

Twinmummyx2 · 16/04/2007 10:20

oh and there heartbeats were never in sync....it was always very time consuming finding the different heartbeats...and them mums can be heard......!!!!!.....(this took the longest at ante-natal appoints!)
