Help - is this my waters breaking?

I know this is going to sound a bit stupid but I was sitting on the sofa and thought I had wet myself. There was a fair bit of liquid not a trickle but enough to soak through to the sofa. It was clear and didn't smell of wee. Could it be my waters? I'm only 37+5 today so it's a bit early.

Should I phone the midwife or delivery suite, I don't want to go in and them tell me I've wet myself?

no real experience as mine had to be broken but it does sound like it.
if you ring they'll get you to go in to be checked probably

daisy1999 · 19/07/2004 18:34

Yes sounds possible. I woke up to find myself just "dribbling" (is that too much info? ). the hospital can check the liquid if it's still happening when you get there.

daisy1999 · 19/07/2004 18:35

Phone the hospital they'll help. My waters broke at just under 33 weeks (twins).

Jollymum · 19/07/2004 18:41

Sounds like it-you're having a baby!! Lots of love and luck!!XXX

NO NO NOOOOOOOOO SWEETKITTY!!! Don't you DARE go before me!!

I'd say that yes it's your waters, phone your midwife. Mine did that with ds and my contractions started about 4hrs later! Keep us posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mutter, grumble, hmph

sweetkitty · 19/07/2004 19:06

No no no no you were all supposed to say I had wet myself! I have nothing ready, no birthplan, no crib, no car seat base, no nursing bras!!

I'm going to phone the hospital and I'll let you know if I go in.

sorry yes of course you are incontinent!! Just in case go into hospital and who knows you might just meet your baby tonight. Lucky you. PS births never go to plan anyway

islandgirl · 19/07/2004 19:18

sounds like it - good luck and don't worry about lack of birth plans, mine went out the window anyway!!

daisy1999 · 19/07/2004 19:19

birth plans are invented by the medical profession to give you the impression that you have a say in something!

bunny2 · 19/07/2004 19:19

YES! Definately sounds good.

daisy1999 · 19/07/2004 19:20

sweetkitty · 19/07/2004 20:18

If it's any help at all, I have had 3 at 36, 37 and 38 weeks, all v good weights for their gestation, and they had no probs with birth ,delivery or afterwards. Good luck !

pupuce · 19/07/2004 20:23

If it si your waters.... be informed that they will recommend induction in 24 hours... if they do NOT perform a vaginal examination.... evidence based midwifery says you can SAFELY weight 96 hours (no more risk of infection).... the vast majority of women go into sponatenous labour within 24 or 48 hours.... at the very least they should keep off you for at least 48 hours.... much better for you to start labour on your own.... and how annoyed would you be if they said "we'll induce you", they would then examine you and STILL break waters because it's only the hindwaters that went !!! Seen it happen !

Be strong
