Maternity pay nhs bank help

Hi everyone

I am new to mums net, hope someone can help answer my question.

I am currently trying to work out what i may be entitled to for maternity pay.

I have been with the nhs over a year and have a full time job so im guessing i will receive OMP from this.

But i also work on the bank for another trust still nhs, Im not sure if i would get OMP or SMP from the trust bank.

I do not what to contact them as yet because they may not offer me many shifts.

Has anyone alse experience this with NHS mat pay?

I am NHS staff with a full time role and work bank with another NHS trust. You will not receive any omp or SMP from your bank contract, as you won't be entitled to omp if you work bank and you cannot get two lots of SMP I'm afraid!

I had no idea you couldn't get SMP from both jobs, is this because they are both NHS?

It may be worthwhile not working bank then in my qualifying weeks?

I also bank for a private organisation very occasional, do you think i may be entitled to SMP from a non nhs job if i up my hours in my qualifying weeks or is it just you cannnot claim SMP for two employments full stop?

You can't claim two lots of maternity pay. Most bank jobs do not pay maternity. If you have a full time job with the NHS then their enhanced maternity pay is pretty reasonable.

You only get maternity pay from one job. Look at the website, maternity action.

I think the rules are something like if you are employed in your qualifying week, which is 25 weeks pregnant ish, and will continue to be employed, you can get maternity pay. Which is £140 ish a week.

Yes the nhs OMP is reasonable but i only do 30 hours and rest either bank or private.

I have read this online from work smart

       "If you meet the above conditions, the two employers must each pay Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) for the first six weeks, calculated at a weekly rate equal to 90% of your average weekly earnings and, for the remaining 33 weeks, must pay the lower of the following: £140.98 per week"

This information is what made me think i could get my OMP from my normal nhs job and also get SMP from my bank / private job.

Bank jobs usually dont give benefits such as annual leave, mat pay etc

You can get two lots of SMP, if you qualify in both jobs (length of service and earning thresholds).

Yes, you could get two lots of maternity pay but only if you have two permanent part time jobs. I do not think bank or agency counts but you should ask the HR department of your bank Trust

But surely your employer for both jobs is the NHS? It's just how you're organised to work for them, so it's the same company?

One is nhs yes

But other is not nhs and they do give SMP ( just read there policy)

I work 30hours NHS and around 10 for the other.

So maybe if i meet the criteria i might get OMP from nhs and SMP from private company.

If your second job -10 hrs- is a permanent contracted post, then SMP may be a possibility. If your 2nd job is NHS bank work for a trust or a NHS contractor, I’m almost 100% sure you are not entitled to paid sick or annual leave or maternity pay.

Are you on a zero hours style contract? If so, and you meet income criteria then yes you should get SMP from bank company.

Remember the eligibility period is the money you receive (not earn, but are paid) in the eight weeks before your 25th week of pregnancy.

I think going forward i will email my private job and get something in writing and work out my qualifying period and make sure i am eligible.

Will do this later on, dont want them knowing im pregnant yet.

Im a bit relieved to hear i may get help from my privet job, fingers crossed.
