Hb in 2 different places - home doppler

It's possible.... right?
Just found 2 different heartbeats, definitely baby as a LOT faster than mine.
Is it possible I'm picking up the same hb? One was about an inch to the right, and the other 3 inch to the left (of belly button).
I'm almost 12 weeks, not got scan till Tuesday.
Please tell me I'm delusional

Dopplers are massively unreliable. Even the community midwives have stopped using them during antenatal appointments in my area.

I'd wait and see at your scan. You could be picking up the placenta.

I know they are unreliable, I was only asking if it's possible that this can happen.
It never happened last pregnancy, and I'm already very worried about my scan.

I think they're talking in Parliament about banning the home use dopplers aren't they?

Doppler =more worry.
Bin it and rely on the professionals.

I used a Doppler and found it massively reassuring. I even predicted the sexes based on the beats. Could be twins. If you're very worried pay for a private scan. About 40 quid for a basic one

Unlikely to be able to pick up a fetal heart at 12 weeks, especially as high as your bellybutton.

And yes, home dopplers should not be used, so dangerous!

I didn't want advice on whether dopplers should be used or not. I've used it many times, and would never use it for reassurance.

leavethedogs I have my routine 12 week on Tuesday anyway, and most private scans are £100 in my city - which I definitely couldn't afford

I'm actually terrified of going for a scan due to losing my son's twin at 11 weeks, only 3 years ago.. and this is just now making me doubt everything!

Oh darling that's awful. I have heard that your umbilical cord creates a heartbeat sound. Especially if it's high up. I wish you the best

I think it’s doubtful that at 11 weeks you’ve managed to pick up babies heartbeat at all. Baby won’t be up by your bellybutton yet - it’s possible you’ve picked up sounds from the placenta.
I know it’s hard but I’d stop using it and wait for your scan.

Lj. I never said the hb was as high as my belly button - I used that as reference of the middle of my belly.
And it is very possible to hear baby's heartbeat. My midwife helped me last pregnancy to find hb at 10 weeks and I found this one myself about a week ago (10 weeks again).

I'm not stupid. I can hear my baby's hb. And as said - I don't want advice on the doppler itself. I asked how possible it is to pick up the same hb twice.

Hb was not at my belly button - maybe I should have just said the centre of my stomach.
Hb was found at pubic line, and yes it is baby's heartbeat. Midwife showed me how to use the doppler in the first place so I think I should know!

You could pick the same HB up twice if the baby moves or there could be two HB or it could be one HB and one umbilical cord or placenta pulse.

It’s most likely to be what pp have said - even midwives say its really difficult to know what is being picked up so early.

Even at 16 weeks with known twins, midwives can only safely pick up one heartbeat and it's made clear to the woman that it can't be known whether two heartbeats are being picked up. Please don't use home dopplers, they do more harm than good.

The uterus is at the pubic bone at 12 weeks.
One of the problems with hand held Dopplers is that they can double the maternal heart and give the illusion that you are hearing the faster fetal heart. Dopplers can also half the fetal heart, making you believe that you are hearing your own heart rate.

I think when you post like this on a public forum, you can't really dictate the advice given heather.. you may not want to know that dopplers are bad, and you may have been trained how to use one by a midwife, but you are also not the only person reading the answers on this thread. Posters are dishing out sensible information to everyone else that might see you finding a hb at 10 weeks and thinking they want to try it too!!

@Lj8893 The dopplers are not dangerous themselves, it should be clarified. The actual technology is not dangerous, it's just it can give you false reassurance.
Midwives in my area do use them. I have one we use at home every once in a while, but not for reassurance- just to know. I would not base anything on it and would go to seek a medical advice if I was worried.
I just think it's a shame someone asks a question and most people give answers that miss the point completely.

OP- The placenta itself also makes a sound, could it be you picked it up?

I have a doppler that I LOVE. When baby is having a quiet day I use it as it's a standing joke that as soon as I put it on my belly baby starts kicking it (do it with midwife / hospital too.. You get a real thump sound, midwives all laugh) Plus I like to listen in sometimes when I'm reading to bump; you get to hear movements as well as kicks.

That said I firmly believe kick counting is more important than hearing a noise on doppler.

Re your question... I can sometimes pick up baby's heartbeat on my right next to belly button and then on my left around my side. I guess it depends how baby lies.

I'm 35+6 though so my baby is quite cramped in there. I don't think I heard it in two places until 25+ weeks gone.

lady yes I know the actual technology of them arnt dangerous, but used without training and knowledge of interpreting a fetal hr they are dangerous in that they could falsely reassure.

Can I just state to all, like I've said above, the doppler is NOT being used for reassurance. If I thought there was a problem I would call midwife/triage straight away. Also I know the importance of counting kicks but if I tried to say I could feel kicks at 12 weeks I'd also get called a liar for that too.
