Ovarian Cysts in pregnancy.

When I had my early scan, at 6 weeks they noted a 3cm cyst on my right ovary, since then I have had pain in that area, and today when I woke from a nap and moved over onto my right side, I had a huge shooting pain. The pain goes away as fast as it comes, like a stabbing pain.
I had a scan yesterday but the woman seemed to be in a hurry and didn't check my ovaries, or the bleed that was also noted on my first scan. I forgot to ask her to check it. Should I see my midwife and ask for her to refer me to get my ovary checked or just phone the clinic?

i had a big cyst on one of my ovaries when pregnant, i think it was about 10cm. it got remarked on every time i had a scan (& i had a lot...), but never gave me any trouble at all. i would ring your midwife to tomorrow & she what she says.

I had one with dd1, grew to about 8cm. Was alway commented on too.
I keeps getting this pain on my right side and am assuming that its to do with the cyst.

pain must be worrying, definitely get it checked.

Yesterday at my dating scan she just went 'theres the baby, heart, legs, arms' measured the baby and then finished. I;m sure that in previous pregnancies the scan was longer and they check your ovaries.

SparklyGothKat, I've just posted about this on the early scan post.
I had pains like you describe up to 12 weeks. It was from the corpus luteum cyct on my ovary (the cyst where the egg has popped out of I believe). It kept bursting and leaking fluid into my abdomen which irritates the lining of your innards (for want of a technical description!) If this is what you are experiencing it should stop at around 12 weeks when the placenta is established and takes over all the hormone production. Then the cyst shrivels up usually. It is worth going and getting it looked at though. I had to go back repeatedly before they figured out that was what was happening.

I wasn't sure if I should reply or not but it does have a happy ending!

A friend of mine had a cyst on her ovary during pregnancy and it got so painful she was admitted to hospital. After continued pain, she ended up having surgery to have it removed.

I know this sounds really awful but the pregnancy progressed absolutely fine after that and baby was/is fine too. So, I guess I'm saying make sure you get looked at just in case but we're all hoping that you'll be fine and won't need any treatment of that sort.

I had one about that size when I was that far along w/DD2.

It was gone by a 20 week scan, however.

I had one so early on that I didn't know I was pregnant. I was rushed to hospital one night with suspected appendicitis, and found out that I was 4 weeks pregnant and that I had a cyst. I had mine removed by keyhole surgery and the result of the unexpected pregnancy will be 12 next week.
