How did you tell those closest to you?

So DH and I will be telling our parents that we’re expecting tomorrow (early at 4 weeks 6 days but we’ve known for over a week and are excited to share the news!). It’s first grandchild on both sides and so far we’re just going to play it by ear rather than do anything fancy but would love to know how others did it?

We were abroad when we found out so just Skyped them. Nothing fancy.

My mum kind of guessed - she kept asking knowing questions lol - then I asked her out for coffee and she knew straight away and hugged me lol - she then told my dad haha

Nothing fancy, I called my Mum straight away and swore her to secrecy. Told others as and when over the coming months but I will say we had a couple of reactions which weren’t what we were expecting! Think it’s quite common so try not to put too much pressure on the scenario and just tell people your happy news

We didn't tell anyone until after 12 weeks so put the scan photos in cards for my parents and the in laws and gave them to them when they were round for lunch. Nothing too OTT but it was nice

Nothing fancy here either, just showed them the scan photo (we waited till 10/11 weeks to tell family). I find big extravagant reveals a bit cringey TBH...

I just told them...

This is our third and we waited until we had our 12 week scan photo. We just sent a photo via text or whatsapp to everyone with the word 'surprise'. I hate a fuss. It turns out it wasn't a surprise and most people had guessed weeks before. I do not glow during pregnancy

We went for dinner with my mum and it was taking an age so I simply said hurry up, I'm eating for 2. PILs found out as I barrelled past to throw up in the toilet as they opened the door to welcome us for the weekend.

They came to stay. Offered them a glass of wine and poured myself a squash. "Is there a reason you're not drinking?"

"Yeah".

"Ah, jolly good".

Job done

A girl I know put a baby grow in a gift bag and filmed her parents opening it and pulling it out.
Their reaction was amazing, realisation hit after a few seconds and they were like "omg is that what I think!" It was so emotional
We didn't do anything fancy but I thought that was really sweet.

Didn't tell anyone until at least 12 weeks (didn't find out ourselves for 10 weeks) - I just told my mother over the phone, very matter of fact. My DH told his mother over the phone (neither of our families lived near to us). I've never understood the need to make a big announcement of it, but then I very undemonstrative about nearly everything.

I sent a pic of my clear blue digital to my mum and best friends x

Told my mum over the phone as DH was driving us to her house (three hour drive!) she went supersonic then sobbed (first very very longed for grandchild). Then she sobbed some more when we arrived!

DH had a 30 min convo with his mum before he told her otherwise it would have given it away. We then phoned my mum who was working that night so she couldn't overreact and then my step mum got told that her mothersday present would be late (phoned a few days beforehand all the same day) and she screamed when she realised. She got my dad on the phone and so we told him but he kept it low profile as we told all the siblings a few weeks later at Easter when the baby was the same size as some of the Easter eggs. All done over Skype for siblings.

I told Jungle Drums (my mum), waited 10 to 12 seconds then everyone else knew.

Told my mum straight away - sent her a pic of my pregnancy test. We'd had 3mcs and she knew about them so no point waiting.

With DH's parents we put a scan picture in a card and gave it to them at 12 weeks. They were so delighted it's one of the happiest memories I've got! A surprise is nice but I wouldn't have done anything elaborate.

I don't tell anybody until 12 weeks but my mum always guesses beforehand so is never surprised anyway! I'd love to record her reaction but it would probably be something like.... "mmhmm... thought so. Your cheeks are much fuller" lol

DH and I did a little interpretative dance but Granny got offended at the explicit bits so it didn't go as intended.

It was a shame because it was over dinner with the whole extended family and the potatoes got cold.

Oysterbabe are we related?

We don't live near our families so it was easy to keep it a secret. With DC1, we saw them for Christmas dinner and DH said something like 'we have another gift for you that we know you are going to love but we can't deliver it till August' and it dawned on them one by one over a few seconds. It was nice because I didn't know he was going to say that and it felt special. DC2 came along much quicker than expected and I just rang. 'Mum, I'm pregnant again'; 'Are you pleased?; 'Yes, a bit sooner than planned but we're happy'; 'That's good then, is it OK if I tell people?'
