trace of protein can mean a slight infection....in conjunction with high BP and swelling can mean possible pre eclampsia, but might be a contaminated sample...ie bit of discharge in the sample or slight urine infection

don;t panic!

lulumama · 11/04/2007 20:49

what did she say re fundal height?

coleyboy · 11/04/2007 20:50

Don't panic, it can mean you have a urinary infection. You'll get yr results quickly.

It's nothing to worry about as long as it is treated - usually anti-biotics I guess?

The bloody mw should have explained this to you - gggrrr

nickytwotimes · 11/04/2007 20:50

i think it means you may have a urinary infection if i remember correctly??
whatever it is i don't think it is anything too serious. i got it a few times, but test came back from lab clear. even if it is a uti, nothing at all to worry about - wee course of antibiotics.
if i remember correctly, there is a number after the plus sign and the higher the no. the more bacteria. the samples i took to the midwife had no chance of being collected in a clinically sterile way, so there was bound to be bacteria present!!

it can be an early indicator of a urine infection and sometimes pre-eclampsia, but the amount of protein is denoted I think by how many plus signs they write. So +++ protein is a much higher concentration. I think one plus sign is usually nothing to worry about - I occasionally had this in my second pregnancy and it never meant anything - some women just have more protein in their wee than others. In my first pregnancy I had about 7 plus signs and it was pre-eclampsia. So they always investigate it but it can be perfectly normal. If there were other signs like raised blood pressure or heacaches she'd be keeping a much closer eye on you Try not to worry - ring her in a couple of days for the results if you need to set your mind at rest.

A tip if you don't feel baba move for a while. Drink a large glass of really cold iced water and you'll feel the baby have a squirm!!

Don't worry about fundal measurements, they are an indication. According to my measurements, I was going to have a baby elephant!!!

lulumama · 11/04/2007 21:35

glad all seems to be ok !

ice cold drink and then lying on your left side can get them moving, in your circs, don;t leave it long, you need the reassurance xxxx

Sorry but + of potein can mean early warning signs of pre eclampica. If you have raised blood pressure too, you may need some medication or bed rest.
Hope it works out ok. Are you feeling fine in yourself?
