itchy lump in bump? Any ideas

Hi i'm having an odd time with the muscles under my bump and up the left side.. i'm quite lumpy under the skin all around my lower abdomen but one spot has a hard little nobble in it that has been little trouble until yesterday. Wierd thing is is it has started to give me quite sharp pinches and if i massage it it starts to ache and itch.

Have asked the MW about it, but that was before it really came alive (It has ached before). She said it was the nature of the muscle tissue. Baby is very lively and bump has popped out in the last week (two delicious stretch marks grr but not on this spot). I cant ever recall injuring this spot.

Any ideas any kind mumsneters out there? Not feeling as brave as usual at the min. Thanks, blossom x

Well I haven't had anything quite like this but if the lump was already there then as the baby grows it will be pushed out more and become more obvious I'd have thought.
And the skin over the bump is often itchy, especially across the bottom, just above the hairline for me, so could be just these two things coinciding.
How many weeks are you and when do you next see the mw? If she wasn't concerned before it's unlikely to be anything to worry about but get her to check it again for your peace of mind - so if your next appt isn't soon I'd give her a ring.

It doesn't sound like it at the moment, but just in case, if you get really severe itching over a bigger area than at present, please do get it checked out. There's a really nasty condition called obstetric choleostatis (choleastasis?) which can be very serious. If you do develop OC (and it is very, very severe itching to the point where you want to scratch so much you draw blood over a large part of your body) your baby will need to be delivered no later than 38 weeks (and it should be fine but early delivery is important). Doesn't sound like it at the moment but if itching becomes unbearable, please keep it in mind.

Hello, thank you for postings . I'm ever so glad of your thoughts, the feelings of support are wonderful.

Going to ring the MW tom, as otherwise not due to see her for two more weeks. 30 weeks gone today!.. and have just spent it trooping to, and round, Ashton Court festival. Sure did niggle and tickle on the climb up, (found out about the shuttle bus when we'd reached the top ), so thinking it might be a damaged / weak bit of muscle.

Don't mean to worry you, but I would see your midwife about it, all the pressure of pregnant tummies, might it be a little hernia? Don't know that anything could be done about it whilest you are pregnant anyway, suspect that intervention would only be done after you've had babe. Let us know what happens, good luck!

hell again We had our visit and the MW took a good deal of interest in this little spot. She could acurately locate it by its odd feeling to touch..the same tight little nobble that could be moved about, but could make me jump with a pinch. I did try out everyones theories and thanks again for those, it was grand to have lots of possibilities to discuss.

The conclusion was to keep an eye on it, but it seemed most likely that this niggle is due to pressure being exerted from the inside.. by a little fist on top of a head possibly!! (Funnily enough the night before we went i had given the spot a deep but gentle massage.. and had received a thump in return! )

Its felt much better since a good explore by an experienced hand, MW also thought it would be easy for a nerve to have been caught up as the ligaments are stretching. She also refered us for physio as an back up.

Agreed to keep an eye on it for the next two weeks until our 32wk visit.. and hope babe decides to strike a new pose by then! thanks for being there. xx blossom
