How likely is it that my baby is breech?

I am now 9 days overdue with my 2nd baby.

At 38 weeks mw said the head was 2/5ths engaged. I saw her at 41 weeks and she said it was still head down but totally free.

Now last night the baby was moving a lot and it seriously felt like it was sommersalting around. It was back to back so was hoping that maybe it was just turning. However it doesn't feel like it has as the kicks are still at the front.

Anyway my question is how likely is it that this baby has now made itself breech? I only ask as I am now getting a lot of kicks at the bottom of my bump and yesterday they were at the top.

I am going in to be induced tomorrow, so would they know if it has turned? Obviously they would if they scan me but are they likley to do that just by me asking them to or would they just think i'm being daft?

I will obviously mention this to the mw tomorrow when i go in, I just wanted any advice that anyone has.

Thanks

weeonion · 11/04/2007 18:36

edda - dot really know missus but ---- if you lie down and feel your lower tummy - can you feel a hard lump (aka as head) down there??

i am sue they will give you a good exam before they start anything off??

claricebean · 11/04/2007 18:43

i only really know where her head is when she gets hiccups. does yours get hiccups much?

gigglinggoblin · 11/04/2007 18:44

ds4 (7 weeks) was breech, we only found out at the last minute in delivery suite. they had a scanning machine there, not a v good one but good enough so if you tell them you are worried and ask for a scan they may be able to do it without sending you down to the ultrasound dept. worth asking if you are stressed. good luck!

I blame EAH for worrying(only kidding) dd1 with her was breech so she should know?!

Would the bottom not feel hard too though?

Hiccups, not really

See this is what i mean, think i'm worried for nothing and really they will check tomorrow before starting to induce me. I'm just so impatient thought i'd try to get an answer now

Its very unlikely that a term/over due baby will turn from cephalic to breech. Might just have bent his/her legs round so feet are lower down????

The midwives will palpate before they induce you and will be able tell if baby if breech or not.

Bottoms are not as hard as heads. Very rarely do they get muddled up.

maveta · 11/04/2007 18:54

Sorry can´t help but GOOD LUCK FOR TOMORROW!!!!

ellieandhattie · 11/04/2007 19:37

oops I'm sorry for worrying you Eddas.

My midwife was insistent the head was engaged it was only the fact I had to have an extra scan at 37 weeks due to dh heart defect that it was discvered she was wrong way round (never has been the right way round since he he!) if I hadnt had tat scan would have gone into labour and then it may have been dicovered or may have had to have a breech birth (shudder!)/ emergency section under ga so think I am paranoid on Eddas behalf - very sorry !!!!!!

eca · 11/04/2007 21:15

Eddas - Make sure you tell them you're worried and explain why. And if it's still making you feel very nervous or they aren't very confident by feeling your bump, press them into giving you a scan.

Hope all goes well. thinking of you xx

ELF1981 · 11/04/2007 21:19

Eddas - ask for a scan before they induce you.
I had several midwives insist that DD was head down and had moved into the right position.
It was only because I was in hospital for tests (pre-eclampsia and lack of movement) that they scanned me and said still breech.
Even after that, the midwives felt my bump and said they were sure she was head down.
She wasn't!

Good luck for tomorrow!

coleyboy · 11/04/2007 21:20

I only ever felt kicks/punches at the bottom of my bump, and ds was head down for the majority of my pregnancy.

weeonion · 11/04/2007 22:30
