Hi!
This post is not about myself, but since im pregnant im curious about this.
A good friend of mine found out she was pregnant a few weeks ago and booked in for an early scan, i went with her to the scan and she was told she looked to be either 5+6 or 6 weeks along, the sonographer couldnt find a heartbeat and asked her to come back in two weeks when she was a little further along.
A few days before the scan two weeks later i asked her if she wanted me to go with her for support and she told me she had attended the hospital with stomach pains the day before, they scanned her and told her she was not pregnant, was never pregnant and that it was a phantom pregnancy.
She didnt have any details on the how or why so i advised her to go to her appointment tthat week (it was at an independant sonogram and advice service) to get some information about phantom pregnancy and why she had seen a developing sac at her initial scan, but had no bleeding to implicate a miscarriage.
She agreed but the following day cancelled saying she wasnt very well, im concerned for my friend as she seems very down and even though she didnt want the pregnancy shes taking it quite hard.
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about phantom pregnancy vs early miscarriage and wether its possible she had a blighted ovum instead?
Just i researched phantom pregnancy on the dreaded google and it says everywhere there is NO developing foetus, embryo or yolk sac, just physical and psychological symptoms caused by a deep desire to, or fear of becoming pregnant.
Has anyone been through anything similar?
