So two positive pregnancy tests today, not planned but it will be ok....not told dp yet as he's at work....please help with my dumb questions as I've never been pregnant before

  • I drank this weekend.... too late now I know but chance of this causing issues?
  • pregnancy tests said 3 weeks + which apparently means 5 weeks?????
  • what do i need to do about going to a Dr?
  • would a surfing trip in 3 weeks be a bad idea
  • oh and how the hell do I tell do...im on the pill but had a dodgy tummy a few times

Eeeek I float between excitement and terror. It's not ideal timing to say the least but oooh I can't help but not care really

Thank you all for helping, I never realised I knew nothing before today

Congrats!...I don't have any advice because this is my first and I found out two weeks ago - very unexpectedly- I was at 6 weeks just wanted to say congratulations

Mustang27 · 16/10/2017 16:35

You may find meat smells utterly vile soon depending on how far along you are so you might not want that rare steak anyway lol.

I miss coffee and steak Sad can’t stomach the smell taste of either and 31 weeks lol.

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 16:45

I really hope so as a rare steak is at least a monthly occurance usually

Thanks for all your support!

Drinking, no worries. Just stay dry the rest of the pregnancy (as you know).

Surfing... well, I was told I could snowboard up to 7 months. I was an avid snowboarder then. I didn't snowboard at all in the pregnancy. Didn't want to risk it. See how you feel but I don't know. I probably wouldn't if I were you.

Get a dating scan. Your GP will refer you to EPU (early pregnancy unit) for this. Good luck! Flowers

Take your folic acid, as already suggested.

Wonderful news! I remember telling my DH 😂 he sat silent for a few mins and I did the Rachel thing from Friends 'it is yours btw' that snapped him out of the silence and he gave me a big hug 😄

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 17:03

Yeah I'm really not sure how DP will react as its going to cause issues with all kinds of things, hence me saying its bad timing! I'm sure he will be fine in the end but not being a planned thing I think he's allowed to freak, I did for about 4 hours earlier today

I bought 'what to expect when you're expecting' and it is really useful! Explaining lots of things, phrases, changes and additional info and advice. I highly recommend.

Definitely on the vitamins - if you weren't trying then I presume you weren't taking folic acid, so start loading up!

Since getting pregnant I have switched from folic acid + multivits combo to just the Pregnacare Plus pills.

I didn't know about contacting a midwife in UK?? I jsut made an appointment with my GP which is for friday this week.

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 17:33

Thanks for the tip, I'll look up that book Smile

I preferred The Rough Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth - it's a bit more "wing it" in style than what to expect, which is very earnest - though I'm sure informative - it has all the useful info in but I also found it quite funny and reassuring.

GP will refer to midwife but in the UK you do not usually see a midwife until 8-10 weeks, so if you've found out at 4-5 weeks which most people do, you might have to wait. They need to do dating scan before 10? 12? weeks I believe so any question over dates does need to be looked at ASAP just in case.

I guess he's home now OP - how did it go? :)

LadyRenoir · 16/10/2017 19:43

If no joy with GP, you can often self refer yourself through the local hospitals. I just went on the websites of a few local ones and they all had self-referral forms to fill in- then I picked the one which I liked the best.

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 19:45

He's not home until 11ish unfortunately so still in the dark about It!

I'll ring the gp tomorrow and ask what to do I think as it seems so region specific! I have absolutely no idea how far along I could be......

Keep thinking I imagined it all and considering another test Blush

Mustang27 · 16/10/2017 19:47

False positives are really unusual, numerous false positives very unlikely. Oh wow that’s a long time to wait.

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 19:52

I took photos of them and still have them just to reassure myself I've not got it wrong Hmm

You should be able to know the date last period started by looking at the number of pills you've used since?

BertieBotts · 16/10/2017 20:29

Oh no poor you having to keep it to yourself for that long!!

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 20:29

I sometimes back to back pill packs or have a pack and a half and also had a few on the go at once (kept some in the car some in the house just in case I forgot occasionally). I think it was the start of September.....but I remember it being a very light one

OP posts:
TiesThatBindMe · 16/10/2017 20:33

Can you remember anything like clothing for occasions or anything to jog your memory?

ExCoffeeAddict · 16/10/2017 20:34

Congratulations!
I actually just lol'd at your 'pack and a half' comment you realise that is probably why your upduffed 😂

Stay away from cat poop get loads of sleep and rest and eat lots of cake Cake

poisonedbypen · 16/10/2017 20:36

Knowing how many pills you have taken won't help as it won't tell you when you ovulated. The reason you usually date back to your last period is that most people ovulate on about day 14 of their cycle. That isn't relevant here.

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 20:41

I've been taking pill packs like that for 13 years with no issues Confused I mean without taking the break in the middle of sugar tablets

So there is no way to know then without a scan?

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 16/10/2017 20:43

Agree with poisoned. Only way to tell will be a scan.

BertieBotts · 16/10/2017 20:45

It's fine to run packs together as long as you don't take a break longer than 7 days and you take at least 3 weeks in a row.

The pill is only 97% effective or something so it is possible for it to fail, even if you take it properly.

Northernbeachbum · 16/10/2017 20:48

I never had more than the 7 days off and took at least 4 weeks each time Smile
