Flu jab in first trimester?

Hi all,

Reckon I'm 4-5 weeks and considering whether to get the flub jab this week. I work in a school, so am exposed regularly to every pathogen going, but also have never had flu before. I have been reading comments on another board and lots of women there were saying that they'd wait until they were out of the first trimester. Has anyone had it in the first trimester? What were your experiences?

I had mine at about 11 weeks, no problems at all. I do have it every year due to work though and anyways been ok

The NHS guidance is to get it at the start of flu season regardless of where you are in pregnancy. I've always had it in 2nd tri for no reason other than all my babies have been late winter babies, so I'm in 2nd tri when the flu jab becomes available in October. But I also have one every year anyway (I'm asthmatic) and I would have gotten it in 1st tri if it had turned out that's where I was when October rolled around. I've never had any adverse effects from it, and certainly flu in early pregnancy would be much more dangerous than getting a jab. The flu is supposed to be especially bad this year.

I had mine at 4 - 5 weeks and she said it's fine to have. It also gave me an excuse for a week of why I felt so lousy to avoid finding another excuse to cover my pregnancy symptoms.

I had mine about 9 week, was fine

Definitely do it. I had flu while pregnant, I've never been so ill in my life. It hung around for weeks and I then got a secondary chest infection which needed strong antibiotics.

I work in a school as well and went to get one done ASAP- my midwife centre only were offering them since last week so went off to Boots instead, as with all the lovely germs kids (and other staff!!!) carry around, I thought better safe than sorry. Now may be a good time as apparently a big wave of flu is coming.

Had mine about 8 weeks, no issues apart from arm aching for a day!

I'm almost 5 weeks and had my first doctors appointment this morning. She brought it up and told me they recommend it to all pregnant ladies and I should have it while I was there to get it out of the way.
