I’ve never washed a piece of fruit in my life and have two healthy DD’s Smile.
I’m sure it will be fine.

No.

Don’t worry about the past, but do wash it from now on.

The reason they recommend washing fruit and vegetables is to reduce the risk of toxoplasmosis and listeria. The risk with toxoplasmosis is caused by fruit or vegetables coming into contact with contaminated soil, which may have had infected cat faeces (they shed millions of oocysts for about two weeks after infection) in it. I was absolutely obsessed with toxoplasmosis in my first trimester and read everything about it. I had a toxoplasmosis blood test in first trimester which showed that I'd never contracted it even though I'd been eating unwashed fruit, vegetables and raw meat for over 30 years so the risk is very small! You'll need a blood test to check as it is unsymptomatic.
Listeria contamination is even less of a risk. There was a listeria outbreak in the US a few years ago which was caused by melon, but these incidents are very rare and you would definitely know if you'd contracted listeria!!!!!

I've never washed fruit. I would probably wash it if it came out if someone's garden

AnonEvent · 14/10/2017 13:21

I had no idea that by washing fruit was so common. I even wash the fruit I peel (e.g. oranges) in case they come into contact with a washed fruit that I don't peel.

But OP you'll be fine, the risk is minimal.
