Excuses for not drinking alcohol

Laura17111 · 13/10/2017 19:04

I am going away with my Mum for the weekend in November for my birthday, I will be 8/9 weeks at the time, we are planning on not telling anyone until 12 weeks after our scan.

I will be out with my Mum on the evening and would usually have a few drinks during the day too, I feel as soon as I say I am not drinking that she will automatically think I am pregnant

Has any one had any good excuses for not drinking alcohol which have worked?

Thank you

Everyone uses im on antibiotics. As you cant mix alcohol with them. Them her you caught a horrid bug and that's what you've been prescribed. Nearer to the day tell her your ill and going doctors Wink

Ilovechocolate111 · 13/10/2017 19:23

*tell her you caught a horrid bug

Scribblegirl · 13/10/2017 19:26

Methotrexate is the one you can't drink on for fear of projectile vomiting if that helps Grin

Laura17111 · 13/10/2017 19:27

Thank you, I will have to start working on her a few days before we go. The only problem is, she is a nurse so I will have to get my facts right, she would be the one to catch me out if anyone will

We just really want to wait until the first scan and I would hate not drinking alcohol to give it away

She'll know. Everyone does as soon as you say the antibiotics excuse.

Scribblegirl · 13/10/2017 19:28

Ignore me, I meant metronidazole! Confusing my drugs!

Laura17111 · 13/10/2017 19:28

@Scribblegirl that's perfect, thank you

Use the one in my second post! The first one is what my dad takes for his MS, that would be a very different conversation...!!!Grin

Laura17111 · 13/10/2017 19:31

@Scribblegirl haha I could imagine that would lead to a lot more questions, thank you

No worries. I know this by dint of having taken it when I had a wisdom tooth out in my early 20s and thinking I was foolhardy enough to drink on it. Suffice to say I was not...

NetflixandBill · 13/10/2017 19:33

Everyone says theyre on meds and can't drink. If you can, only order your own drinks and try and speak to the staff about only making you gin-less g&ts for instance

Foggymist · 13/10/2017 19:33

She's your mum, would you not just tell her? "I'm on antibiotics" is the biggest giveaway, you might as well just say it straight out if you're going to use that excuse.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 13/10/2017 19:36

I would fake drink. As a nurse she'll see through the antibiotic excuse, hell most non medical people see through that one.

Have you been trying and if so is she aware of it? Because any excuse not to drink will give it away I imagine.

Laura17111 · 13/10/2017 19:37

@Foggymist I understand and have thought about telling her and my dad but we are wanting to leave it until 12 week scan to tell anyone

@NetflixandBill I was thinking vodka and coke without the vodka and I will go to the bar as much as I can which should be easy enough

OP posts:
Laura17111 · 13/10/2017 19:39

@FormerlyFrikadela01 I am thinking fake drink with vodka and coke could be a good idea

We were only trying for two months so they do not know we were trying

Just tell her that you are on a diet (you will probably have some morning sickness by that pony anyway so I doubt that you will look like you are not). Just don't eat any cake and order a salad.

Sunshinesaz86 · 14/10/2017 08:56

Yes I fake drank through a whole hen weekend and wedding!

Non alcoholic wine/lager mocktails are a winner especially virgin mojitos as they look like the exact real thing and still taste good! Or the vodka/gin coke/tonic but without the spirit! Good luck!

I'm going to see a lot of the ppl I was on the hen with today, and now 15 weeks still not announced so they'll prob be confused! 😬

KarateKitten · 14/10/2017 08:59

You could tell her you're cutting back to try for a baby. A lot of people do.

You could fake drink but with just you and her and unless she's getting well oiled she'll notice.

I used to just pretend I was dying from a hangover the night before. Easily believable as I get so sick when pregnant. And always look hungover for the first 20 weeks.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo · 14/10/2017 11:29

Saying antibiotics is like having a sign around your neck saying I'm pregnant!

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/10/2017 13:29

One of my friends wasn't able to drink because she had hepatitis (b, I think, but you'd have to check). She had no idea where she got it but it was picked up when she gave blood. Seems quite extreme to tell her you've got hepatitis though. I'd just tell her you're pregnant.

TheCatsMother99 · 14/10/2017 14:59

I'd either tell her (she's my mum afterall and if something were to go wrong I'd rather she knew anyway) or I'd take drink.

Saying you're on antibiotics leads people to scrutinise your behaviour in my experience so I personally wouldn't say that.

TheCatsMother99 · 14/10/2017 15:00

Fake drink*
