Booking in appointment too late?

Hi guys. I did a pregnancy test on 15th September, I called the doctor who told me to self refer to the midwife. I did and was giving an appointment for the 3rd October. Sadly my dad passed away that morning very suddenly and I had to cancel my appointment. They have rescheduled this for the 31st october. This seems really late to me, or is this totally normal?

They are usually before 12 weeks, so you have loads of time.

Many midwives won't se anyone before 10 weeks or so anyway.

Sorry about your dad!
One thing is that your midwife needs to book your dating scan which has to be at a specific time for the most accurate dating.

Ah that's ok then. I asked about the appointment before and it seems to be mainly form filling. They won't book my scan until I have been seen at the booking in appointment. I was previously using a coil to help with heavy periofs and had it removed on 31st July. I've had problems conceiving before so i couldnt believe id feel pregnant at all never mind so soon! But as a result ive no idea how many weeks i am. At the most id be about 11 weeks (if I fell pregnant immediately!!) I'm just a worried and losing my dad has made it worse!

@Bambi29 congrats on your BFP!!

I went to the GP who referred me to a midwife. It took a week for the NHS to send a letter to my house with a date for the booking appt to be exactly in another weeks time. In the same post run, I also received a letter for my dating scan, a month in advance! Dating scan is booked on the day I turn 12 weeks.

It might seem long waiting but aslong as they know the first date of your last period, they should arrange the scans accordingly! Hope this helps!

Bambi29 · 14/10/2017 09:24

@ziggymarl thank you! My last period was April so that's not much help!! I had a coil fitted to help with heavy and irregular periods which was removed at the end of July. I haven't had any bleeding so I've no idea. I was going to pay for an early scan but in order to book one I need to know how many weeks i am and I don't. I'm hoping the midwife will help at the end of the month :)

I'm very sorry for your loss. What an awful thing to happen. I hope you have a healthy and peaceful pregnancy x

@Bambi29 sorry to hear about your Dad Flowers I’m 28 weeks pregnant and lost my Mum in June and my Dad in August ☹️ it really does make you more worried xx

Bambi29 · 15/10/2017 10:39

@hotpinkangel19 I am so sorry, it's just awful isn't It? My dad was fine one day and just didn't wake up the next. He was only 59 :( it's made me worry more but also made me so detached now. I'm finding it hard to be happy right now. We'll get there though, big hugs xx
